After taking the first steps into country music and country music concerts in the early Flyctory.com days, the website is steadily establishing its reports in the genre. Summer 2019 will feature some nice concerts – but the highlight is likely the coverage of the British Country Music Festival in Blackpool from 13th to 15th September in the English beach city. Just about one month before the event will be taking place, here is a preview to the festival.
British Country Music Festival – History and Background
The history of The British Country Music Festival is easily told: there is no history – as it is the debut edition of this event. However, country music has much more support than in countries like Germany or the Netherlands: BBC Radio 2 regularly plays country music shows, other stations like Chris Country play a reasonable role in the world of British media. The British country music festival scene is much more diverse than just the Country 2 Country in Glasgow and London in March.
British Country Music Festival – The Venue
Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of this place (yet), but one thing which makes the British Country Music special as well is its venue: the Winter Gardens in Blackpool are a beautiful and very traditional entertainment area with multiple stages and areas. Main stage will be in the Empress Ballroom, which was one of the largest in the world, when it was built in the late 19th century.
There will be an overall of four stages. Two additional stages are in the so-called Arena. Finally, some bands play at Gillows Bar, which will provide some lovely and intimate pub atmosphere.

British Country Music Festival – The Lineup
As stated above, the festival will take three days. Saturday is the only “full” day with music from 11:00 hrs in the morning to 1:30 in the night. The festival will open at 16:00 on Friday and it will close on Sunday at 18:00.
Two of the main acts of the day are Flyctory.com Featured Artists: on Friday, Sarah Darling will close the main stage, Catherine McGrath will be do the very last Empress Ballroom notes on Sunday afternoon. Apart from that, I am of course especially looking forward to see Twinnie’s performance on Saturday. Ward Thomas will be the final act on Saturday.
British Country Music Festival – Recommended Artists
Of course, I am especially looking forward to the three artists I mentioned above, but there are a lot of other interesting acts. Here are my five picks definitely worth watching:
- The trio Remember Monday recently competed in the British The Voice and thus can already count on a decent fan base. Will be cool to listen to their amazing voices in Blackpool.
- I reviewed the 2019 album of The Luck called Ready to Run and absolutely enjoyed it. Look forward how it will sound on stage.
- I liked Jake Morrell’s performance at the 2019 Country 2 Country in London. His song Englishman was one of my favorites of this year’s C2C festivals.
- I happened to run into Jeannine Barry in social media. I like the music she is doing – it will be fun to listen to her live and meet her for the first time.
- I will see Gary Quinn just four days before his Blackpool performance supporting dear Lauren Jenkins and Jillian Jacqueline in Cologne.
British Country Music Festival – How to get there
Blackpool is a very popular beach and relax destination, so that it is quite well connected to the rest of England. I will take the straightforward connection and board the (direct) train connection from Manchester Airport. There are also bus alternatives or the good, old drive by car. Especially on the weekend days, I could imagine that finding a parking lot may be challenging.
There are a lot of other attractions around the venue. For example Blackpool hosts a view tower, Madame Tussauds, Sea Life and other attractions. Another classic Blackpool attraction is the Victorian pier. Practically all key attractions are in walking distance to Winter Gardens.
