Shania Twain is definitely one of the most well-known female country music artists, even outside the country music bubble. The more, the title of her seventh studio album overall, Little Miss Twain, feels rather unsuitable. Let’s have a listen to her 24th July 2026 release.

 

Shania Twain – About The Artist

Shania Twain is a Canadian country music artist. She was born on 28th August 1965 in Windsor, Ontario. In 1983, she turned into a professional artist. Ten years later, she released her self-titled debut album, which did not have too much success at the time of release, but later became a double platinum album in Canada later. Her sophomore album The Woman in Me (1995) already reached a Top 10 album in the United States, Canada, Norway and the United Kingdom. With her 1997 album Come On Over, she had massive global success. Selling 40 million units worldwide, the album was a 25 times platinum one in the USA and a twelve times one in the United Kingdom.

Her most recent album is Queen of Me. The 2023 release topped the British charts and was a Top 5 one in Australia, Canada and the United States. Twain is a five time Grammy Award winner. Since 2011, she is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. A fun fact about her is that one of my Featured Artists, Lindsay Ell, is the lead guitarist of her band since 2023.

 

Shania Twain – Little Miss Twain – Track by Track

The 15 song album lasts 50 minutes.

1. Stranger Things

The guitars are strumming in a typical Western style in the opener of the album. The song is a rather calm first bit of the listen. It takes a bit until the song develops its full presence, the instrumental bridge is a nice element. However, it also connects to the typical Shania Twain sound. Thus, I am sure it is a heartwarming experience for Shania’s fans.

2. Right Time

Right Time is a bit more pop-ish and comes with a nice rhythm and groove. The song is summer-themed and thus feels like a perfect match to the current season. It is definitely good track, even though I miss the ultimate energetic punch.

3. Little Miss Twain (feat. Tanya Tucker)

Two legends of female country music meet in this duet. The title track of Shania’s album, recorded alongside Tanja Tucker, has been one of the single releases of the album so far. The song is a reflection about Shania’s early steps into the music. Having Tucker in a song which states According to my mother, I’m the next Tanya Tucker. I’m gonna be a star is somehow ironic – but I like that. It comes with a rather slow and traditional setting.

4. Dirty Rosie

The fourth song, Dirty Rose, is another song featured before. Especially after the rather calm and traditional Little Miss Twain before, this one surprises with rocking energy and indie vibes. Definitely not a song Shania Twain traditionalists appreciate from the very first note, but – undeniably – it is an entertaining one.

5. Quit My Life

Quit My Life is the first song which fascinates me. On the one hand, it has some really modern elements. On the other hand, some parts are very traditionalistic. The chorus stays in your mind.

6. Problematic

Problematic is a slow, melancholic song, which here and there has ballad attitudes. The song adds a very different flavor to Little Miss Twain. However, too me, it is a bit too dark and mournful.

7. Scary Little Thing

Shania Twain deviates quite a bit from the country music and country pop path in this song. Scary Little Thing feels like the perfect theme song for an upcoming James Bond flick. The song reminds me of Jonathan Tah’s shoot-out attempt against Paraguay at the FIFA World Cup – it is somehow brave, but still misses the target.

8. I’d Be Loving Me

The backing choir and the general melody line of the eighth song of the album reminds of gospel. However, the sprinkles of a steam guitar and the good vocal performance of the Canadian lead to a very strong character. One of my favorite songs of the album.

9. Faded Blue Jeans (feat. Josh Homme)

Out of the three single releases before the album, Faded Blue Jeans is the most interesting one to me. The verses sound like a darker Western-country song, while the chorus leads to a significant break and rather sounds like an angry blues rocker. You definitely feel the influence of Queens of the Stone Age member Josh Homme.

10. Northern Town

There are two things I absolutely like about Northern Town. First of all, there is a lovely vocal performance and vocal style by Shania. Additionally, she is a really nice storyteller. This very dramatic, dark song definitely profits from that.

Long, slow trains, gold veins in the ground
Rivers run high, and I sleep to the sound
Oh, I wish you were still around

11. That’s The Money

The present banjo in That’s The Money add some bluegrass vibes to the album. However, the rhythm makes the song feel like a dance remix. I feel that the basis of it is really nice. Maybe, she pushed a bit too much to make it special.

12. Down The Middle

That’s enjoyable. Down The Middle is a rather traditional song. However, after a slower beginning, it has some happy honky-tonk vibes. Even though the bridge is killing a bit of that energy, I really like it.

13. Take It To The River (feat. The War and Treaty)

With this collaboration with the Michigan-origin country duo The War And Treaty, Little Miss Twain head into a thoughtful, spiritual direction again. The song again has some gospel vibes as well. The song feels very close, personal – and might be used for the next Sunday church as well.

14. New Love

Don’t we all enjoy New Love? Shania does and presents a zesty, fast, playful song almost at the end of the album. You can definitely dance with her during these positive 3:22 minutes.

15. Rockstars

The title Rockstars sounds like the energetic vibes continue and you have some powerful experience at the end of the record. The song, however, turns into a very different direction and is rather a slow, dramatic, atmospheric indie-pop track.

Shania Twain – Little Miss Twain – My View

Indeed, Little Miss Twain is versatile, fully of surprises and references to different genres. Sounds like an album I love – but Shania Twain unfortunately pushes a bit too much into different directions. This leads to a rather confusing, sometimes hectic listen. Despite she is here and there showing that this concept might even work out partially, it simply does not touch me sufficiently.
