So far, J Schlueter is majorly known as part of the band Someday Jacob. While the band from Northern Germany will still exist, Schlueter ist going for a spin-off and releases the solo album The Other Mile on 19th June 2026. I had a listen.

 

J Schlueter – About The Artist

Jörn Schlüter is a German singer-songwriter and music journalist. On the latter side, he is working for the German edition of the Rolling Stone. At Someday Jacob, he is the singer and guitarist of the band, alongside Martin Denzin (drums), Manuel Steinhoff (bass), and Uli Kringer (guitar). In 2020, the band released their fourth studio album Oxygen Will Flow. As J Schlueter, he has released three songs so far, all being part of The Other Mile.

 

J Schlueter – The Other Mile – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 39 minutes.

1. Portal

The album starts with two previously released songs. Portal is a slow song with typical country-Americana vibes. Schlueter especially strikes with his detailed storytelling. His debut album starts with a very promising listen.

2. Complicated

Released in March 2026, the Complicated has been the first J Schlueter solo song release. The song is even a bit slower than the opener and thus feels like a ballad. With more intensively howling steel guitars and typical guitar chords, the song feels even more country-alike. A really fine track which is taking the attention of the listener for enjoyable four minutes.

3. Dissociate

Dissociate continues the album in a similar style. The album so far is unagitated, the focus is on the lovely storytelling. However, the third song of The Other Mile presents a wider, more complex melody and plot. This leads to a very interesting listen.

4. Used To Love To Dance

I used to love to dance – the fourth song of the album cannot deny a certain melancholic touch. The song is slow and also featured a smaller range of notes. Nonetheless, J Schlueter creates an interesting melody involving different kinds of instrument. Even though this three minutes song is the shortest of the album so far, it does definitely leave a mark.

5. Springtime

Springtime has been the most recent single release from The Other Mile. The German artist shared it on 22nd May 2026. The song has a a nice melody, which is dramatic and feels special. There are also some folk music vibes in it. In songs like this one, the voice of Schlueter feels to work especially well.

6. The Other Mile

After that single release, Schlueter shares the title track of the album. The Other Mile is the only song exceeding a duration of five minutes. At the beginning of the song, there is a strong focus on the vocals and the strumming guitar, which leads to some Western music vibes. However, the song also feels very thoughful and dreaming. A really nice, gentle song.

7. Consolation Prize

Right after the longest track of the album, Consolation Prize (2:45 minutes) is the shortest one on The Other Mile. It’s not a fast track at all. Majorly using an acoustic guitar, the fiddle and, obviously, the voice of the artist, it feels very intimate. With that special setting, it stays in your mind much longer than these almost three minutes.

8. Fly Blind

The Other Mile is full of contrasts and different songs. Fly Blind opens with its steady, present beat. However, there are also some calmer moments in this song. Its plot reminds me of progressive rock songs, moving seamlessly through different sections, from reflecting ones to rather angry times. Especially the end of the song, where the electric guitars play some distorted riffs, are very energetic.

9. Ready Set Go

Just two songs left – the ninth one is Ready Set Go. The song impresses with an intense atmosphere. Its melody is beautifully flowing and gently takes you into its story. The rhythm has a Latin music touch. Especially the chorus stays in your mind.

10. Win Me Over

The Other Mile closes with Win Me Over. The song is an enjoyable, rhythmic song. Again, the voice of the artist creates a nice harmony with the gentle melody. Thus, you leave J Schlueter’s debut with a heartwarming smile.

J Schlueter – The Other Mile – My View

I ran into The Other Mile as it has been provided by a promotion agency to me. You feel that the album is not a “real” debut and that J Schlueter has quite some experience in the music industry. His country and Americana vibes are striking, the songs come with beautiful storytelling. The sound is traditional, but not outdated. Thus I absolutely enjoyed this German recording.
