  • Great storytelling
  • Very intense, dark atmosphere

The Sad Song Society is one of the good, old traditions at the Berlin edition of the Country To Country festival. In 2026, Nathan Evans Fox won the love of the German crowd, being part of that singer-songwriter event for the first time. However, he also did great solo sets. For those of you who love Nathan’s music, he is sharing his new album. On 29th May 2026, he is publishing Heirloom. Here is my review.

Nathan Evans Fox – About The Artist

Nathan Evans Fox is an US American singer-wongwriter, who is originally from Glen Alpine, North Carolina. His music is typically put into the general Americana or indie country genre. The German country fans fell in love with him during the 2026 C2C in Berlin, when he was part of the Sad Song Society, alongside Kenny Foster and Tyler Sjöström. Heirloom is already his fifth album. The most recent one, Wasted One, is a 2021 release. I featured Nathan also in a Spotlight interview in March 2026.

Nathan Evans Fox – Heirloom – Track by Track

The twelve song album lasts 43 minutes.

1. Lots of Beginnings

Heirloom starts with two songs already known to the fans. Lots of Beginnings is a typical Nathan Evans Fox song. The focus is on the storytelling. However, it is a melodically very enjoyable song as well, coming with a rather traditional style and the Nathan’s characteristic depth and melancholy.

2. Little Bit of Shine

There is a Little Bit of Shine in his 2026 album – and even the melody feels a bit happier than in the opener. It’s a really nice and harmonic listen, which is nicely driven by the guitars. Enjoyable!

3. Racecar

With Racecar, the album is taking a more rocking twist. The sound is also a bit of darker and feels being more on the alternative side. That’s also where the story of the third song is heading. I just wanna drive a racecar really damn fast, Nathan is wishing in the lyrics.

4. Sevindust

Sevindust has been an April 2026 single release. The sound is slower, more melancholic. These are the kind of tracks we loved when Nathan was at the Sad Song Society. A clear focus on the story, a lot of depth and a strong personal touch. Lovely.

5. Landlords, Bill Lee, Etc.

Mentioning his Berlin performances: this song was one of my favorites when Nathan performed on the different stages. I am wishing you a hard life, hard time, Nathan is wishing some people who gave him a troublesome time in here. A very traditional, sluggish song, which is spreading its magic from its story.

6. Heirloom

The next on Heirloom, rather in the middle of the album, is the title track. Heirloom opens with slow strings. However, most of the song just needs some gentle strums on the guitar, the clear focus is on the lyrics. In later parts, the strings come back, but song like this one feel like perfect write for intimate venues.

7. Negative Space

Nathan is struggling with the Negative Space he is in. A very social-critical song. The backing melody is limited and feels depressing. Again, the mood of the song matches its instrumentation. If you want to have a happy time, Heirloom might not be the album to go for. But if you allow him a listen, you might absolutely enjoy this one.

8. Meanness

Meanness is a louder, more angry song. The title already suggests that there are not that many positive vibes in here, The energy the song is spreading, especially towards its end, is catching, though.

9. Hillbilly Hymn (Okra & Cigarettes)

The Hillbilly Hymn is another song Nathan presented on the German C2C stages this year. There is a touch of gospel in the track, which does not come with any present instrument for quite a bit at the beginning. The backing vocals lead to a very special touch and lead to a unique listen in this album.

10. Thinking About Quitting No. 5

The tenth song is driven by the piano and a gentle groove. It feels very narrative. I ain’t crazy, just straight, Nathan Evans Fox states in the chorus – and that’s why his songs are so special.

11. Jesus and the Buck

Jesus and the Buck is another song focusing on Nathan’s voice and the lyrics. There are just some gentle guitar chords in the very background. On the other hand, his voice is so intense. Nathan Evans Fox is impressing.

12. Know the End

At the end of Heirloom, there is Know The End. the song starts slowly, but than also has some distorted instrumentation in the background. These sounds lead to another very catching listen. This artist simply does not need too much for that.

I will add the Spotify widget once the album has been published.

Nathan Evans Fox – Heirloom – My View

I really loved Nathan’s live performances in Berlin and even more enjoyed chatting with him. His 2026 album is just what I expected: deep, good stories, well put into music. The album is not a mainstream one, but if you really listen to the songs, they will pay you back with a really good time.

Favorite Song: Thinking About Quitting No. 5
