Flyctory.com Pros

  • Great storytelling
  • Lovely dynamic musical plots
  • Very different stories

In 2024, Ashley Anne was quite in focus on Flyctory.com. I reviewed two EPs by the country ladyDear Dolly in January and Call Me When You Land in November. I am not sure about her future plans for this year – but as she released a new EP on 1st May 2026 and I did not have any reviews this week, I felt giving you a Sunday view into that release. Here is my review of Generational Heartbreak.

Ashley Anne – About The Artist

Ashley Anne is a young, upcoming country artist from Virginia Beach in the United States. Her debut single Dear Dolly has already been her biggest release so far. It currently adds up 2.5m streams on Spotify only. Anne, who grew on TikTok and is nowadays based in Nashville, has released two EPs so far – the ones I mentioned in the introduction.

Ashley Anne – Generational Heartbreak – Track by Track

The six song EP lasts 20 minutes.

1. Love Looks Like

Love Looks Like is one of three songs on the EP, which have been released beforehand. The song is fragile, melancholic, and thus has a very personal touch. Nonetheless, the stomping beat leads to a nice heartbeat of this listen.

2. Found You Broken

After the already known opener, Found You Broken is the first new song on Generational Heartbreak. The song strikes with different facets. On the one hand, there is a touch of country ballad in it. On the other hand, the chorus with the present rhythm feels like a slower dance pop track. The song is very melodic and gentle, which makes it very easy to listen to its story.

3. Happy Birthday

In January 2026, Happy Birthday opened the campaign towards this EP release. The song is not a happy praise of a beloved person, but rather shares bitter moments and rituals of Ashley’s ex on his anniversary. A deep and intense song, which is an excellent write, indeed.

I would send you a text, but we cut ties
I would show up with balloons, but you ruined my life
I would spend the whole morning baking you a chocolate cake
Used to wish you the best, wish you got everything you wanted
Heavy on my chest, but if I’m being honest
Drives me mad every year, so sad, so strange
That I don’t wish you happy birthday

4. Paloma

Paloma has been released about a month before Generational Heartbreak. The song is gentle and melodic, but beautifully works with mood changes. Sometimes, Ashley Anne feels harmonic and happy, sometimes vulnerable and fragile – just before she angrily shouts the lyrics of the song. A great and fascinating plot.

5. Phone a Friend

How do phone a Friend? – Ashley Anne raises this question in the fifth song of the EP. The song deals with complex and false friendships. However, especially compared to the predecessor, the song feels more monotonous, which leads to a very thoughtful atmosphere. The melodic part is a beauty as well, turning this track into my favorite one.

6. Nevermind

In the last track Nevermind, Ashley Anne shares the story of a desired relationship, which finally never gets real. While the song starts in harmony with You came from Jersey, I hear it in your accent in the style of a ballad, she later states

Forget it, never mind
How could I have been so blind?
When you said forever, you lied

A dramatic, excellently told story with a nice dynamic range definitely impresses. The powerful guitar part towards the end closes the EP with a musical bang.

Ashley Anne – Generational Heartbreak – My View

With Generational Heartbreak, I followed the third major step of Ashley Anne’s musical releases. I would definitely say that this EP is her best one so far. It is personal and direct and tells its stories in a great way. I love how she combines messages with fine and dramatic melodic settings. Definitely a release you should dare giving a listen.

Favorite Song: Phone a Friend
