As part of my Weird Al and Grass Court Tennis 2019 trip, I already visited two concerts of Weird Al Yankovic’s Strings Attached tour and also posted a detailed review of the concert in Gilford, New Hampshire. As I got so much good material from the third and final show I viisted of this tour, I decided to make a spontaneous posting about the concert on 30th August 2019 in Indianapolis as well. The full review of the show, which was majorly equivalent, can be found in the Gilford review. Thus, it is more a “supplementary information”, based on the Indy show.
The picures of this concert have not been taken with professional equipment, but with my compact camera. The designated major size picture gallery contains 117 pictures.
Strings Attached, Indianapolis – About The Venue
The city center of Indianapolis is really beautiful. I also had a very convenient short walk from my hotel, the Fairfield Inn & Suites Indianapolis Downtown, to the venue. The Lawn at White River State Park was practically across the street.
The venue is a full outdoor venue with a mobile stage. The people are either sitting on some numbered seats or on the hill behind that on own (or rented) garden chairs or blanket. It is a cozy atmosphere – but overall, I liked the lovely Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion more. The services there were much better. Indianapolis was quite improvised – especially walking to the toilets was quite a lot of steps.
I had first row tickets with a VIP Meet & Greet thereafter. The ticket prices were similar to the New England shows I saw before – including that special package, they were around 300 USD.
Weird Al – Strings Attached Indianapolis – The Show
The orchestra “support act set” started at 20:00hrs and Al and the band came on stage at 20:50. The set was equivalent to Gilford, apart from playing You don’t love me anymore like at the Connecticut show I visited in July. The only major difference was that Al song Jurassic Park in Japanese. Amazing performance.
Sitting in front row gave me a great view again. Unfortunately, the band is blocking the view to the orchestra, so that you can just spot a few musicians if you are at the front.
Weird Al – Strings Attached Indianapolis – My View
In addition to meeting some of my Weird Al friends again, the show was again. I liked the orchestra, though the open air sound is of course always a bit more limited. Great idea to combine Weird Al with an orchestra – and amazing to see that it is working even though they change the musicians regionally. Loved it – which means it is a Top Pick!
Weird Al “Strings Attached” Indianapolis – The Gallery
I just used my compact camera to create the 117 major size picture gallery – so excuse if the quality is not good at all of them:
