pez is one of the most interesting German modern country artists. After I featured his 2021 EP All Lowercase, I was absolutely curious, when I received his debut album Groundtrippin’. Its release date is 18th September 2026. Here is my review.

 

pez – About The Artist

pez is the artist name of Peter Geyer, a country music artist from Southern Germany. He is a former member of the famous Regensburger Domspatzen boys choir. After finishing school, he decided to go for a career as a professional musician. He introduced the country music solo project pez in 2018 and released his debut single Lighthouse in 2019. The EP All Lowercase has been his only major country music release so far.

The ten song album lasts 35

1. Where The Highway Ends

Half of the songs on Groundtrippin’ have been shared before the record release. The opener Where The Highway Ends is one of them. It starts a bit on the plain side, but the chorus latest leads to a present, groovy country rock listen.

2. Lynchburg, TN

Man, I gotta get to Lynchburg, Tennessee – the call for alcohol is strong in the country music scene. pez is following the desire to have a deeper check of the local produce of Jack Daniel’s town – and dedicates the second song to this song. The song is more pop-ish than the opener and has a nice opener. Nonetheless, you feel the desire for this rather short trip from Nashville. I really like the fiddle played by Bruce Hoffman in here.

3. By Nine

pez’s music feels very modern and catchy. However, he stays one step away from the typical Music City mainstream sound. A great example for that By Nine, which is a really nice listen. It feels familiar from the very first moment, but still comes with its signature character. Thus, I really like this new song.

4. Never Seen Tennessee

After we already learned that a famous distillery is on Geyer’s bucket list, he now even adds Never Seen Tennessee. The song has originally been released in July 2025 and definitely comes with summer and party vibes. Lead guitarist Tyler Slawson and Bruce Hoffman, this time on the pedal steel, adds the right swag.

5. Late Night Talks

A fiddle, a dobro, and a mandolin (all played by Jake Clayton, by the way) – Late Night Talks goes for the full country music instrumentation. Melodically, the easy party sound with summer vibes is a perfect fit to its predecessor. Overall, Late Night Talks is one of the most catching tracks of the album.

6. Lost Me For Country

Lost Me For Country is the last previously released song on Groundtrippin’. Especially the chours has quite a lot of energy, driven by stomping drums and present guitar work. A nice one.

7. Nine To Five

First of all: no, this one is not a Dolly Parton cover. Instead, pez presents a very modern, powerful country rock song, which nicely works with a wise instrumental arrangement. There is a slightly darker touch, which feels being a good fit.

8. Nice And Slow

Nice And Slow is next. Indeed, the song is not one of the fastest of the album. I wouldn’t call it a country music ballad. Nonetheless, the emotional, modern track has some airplay potential.

9. Three Chords And The Truth

The country ballad of Groundtrippin’ is still missing. pez chose the penultimate song of his debut album for it. Also in the more romantic and slightly soupy kind of song, the German is doing is right.

10. Without Superman

Save the best for last? For the chucker-out, pez has been supported by some of Nashville’s finer musicians. For example, The Cadillac Three’s Kelby Ray Caldwell plays the lap steel in here. Groundtrippin’ closes with a very powerful and rocking track, which is a fun listen.

Powerful rocking tracks and emotional moments – with Groundtrippin’, pez storms into the top tier list of German country music singer-songwriters. Peter Geyer wrote a nice range of tracks, tells good stories and by that creates a really enjoyable ten track set of songs. I feel that he did not reach the optimum, but had a lot of happy smiles while writing this review.
