Looking back to… Sheryl Crow (29th August 2026, Bethel Woods NY)

After I already shared my impressions of the set by Willie Nelson & Family, here is my second post from the 2026 Outlaw Music Festival at Bethel Woods. Watching Sheryl Crow was an absolute highlight to me. She was the the third last artist on stage on that 29th August 2026, followed by The Avett Brothers (which I will feature in a third post) and Willie Nelson himself. Crow has been really big in Germany, but I had never seen her on stage before that show.

 

This is a Looking back to… post, for which I was an ordinary spectator using my point and shoot camera for pictures. Thus, and also due to my seat on the left wing side, the picture quality does not match my usual concert report one. They are published in Pictured Story size. 

 

Sheryl Crow – About The Artist

Sheryl Crow was born on 11th February 1962 in Kennett, Missouri, a town close to the Mississippi River and the border to Arkansas, North of Memphis. At high school she was a promising athletics athlete. After graduation, she worked as a music teacher and also sang in multiple bands. Her first major revenues in music were as a singer for commercial jingles and ads. At the Bad World Tour by Michael Jackson, Sheryl has been one of the backing vocalists. She also worked with multiple other major acts in that role.

In the 1990’s, Crow more and more formed her solo career. Her debut album Tuesday Night Music Club was a global success. Among others, it was a Top 10 album in the USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, or the U.K., and topped the charts in Australia. The album sold 4.5m units in the United States only. The sophomore album, Sheryl Crow (1996), still sold multiple millions. Apart from a Christmas album, there were six additional consecutive albums which made it into the US Top 10 Album Charts. Her most recent album is Evolution (March 2024). On 9th October 2026, she will share her 13th studio album overall, Pick You Up.

 

Looking back to… Sheryl Crow at Bethel Woods

Sheryl Crow started her set at around 19:00. The ten songs were rather selected around her 2000’s classics. For example, she started with Steve McQueen and My Favorite Mistake. Before Real Gone of the Cars movie soundtrack, she reflected about her relationships, being engaged thrice, but never married. Thereafter, she played her new single, Freedom Bus – even though she stated that once Lionel Richie advised her to never do that.

With the seventh song, If It Makes You Happy, latest, Sheryl Crow boosted the whole audience at the lovely pavilion. Before that, the right wing of the audience felt significantly more active. The most intense atmosphere was at All I Wanna Do very likely. Sheryl Crow was energetic, connected well to the audience, and finished after a little less than an hour with Everyday is a Winding Road. Hope having her back in Europe with the new album one day soon.
