Thomas Rhett – About The Artist

Thomas Rhett Akins Jr. was born on 30th March 1990 in Valdosta, Georgia. His father Thomas Rhett Akins Sr., typically labelled as Rhett Akins,  is a county music artist as well, who even had a US Country chart-topping single (Don’t Get Me Started, 1996). Thomas Rhett grew up in Hendersonville in Tennessee. Due to the network of his father, he got to know some famous artists like Tim McGraw in childhood years already. Finally, he turned a professional artist in 2010. His debut album It Goes Like This, released in October 2023, peaked second in the US Country charts. Rhett’s most successful long-play releases here Life Changes (2017) and Center Point Road (2019), who both topped the US overall and US Country Album Charts.

In 2021, he released the album Country Again: Side A. His most recent album releas was Where We Started in 2022. Both albums made it to the second spot in the US genre-specific charts. He has been nominated for the Grammy Awards for times. About A Woman is his seventh studio album overall.

Thomas Rhett – About A Woman – Track by Track

The fourteen track album lasts 44 minutes.

1. Fool

Strumming guitars and happy whistles are the first sounds you hear when you start listening to About A Woman. The song works with a rhythmic vibes, but does not need too much on the instrumental side to create a happy mood on the listener’s side. Thomas Rhett sends messages like I’m addicted to your loving with happy summer vibes, which will make you move to the song’s rhythm.

2. Overdrive

Just four out of the fourteen About A Woman songs have already been released. Thomas Rhett album do create value in that regard as well. The first already published track on his 2024 album is Overdrive. Especially in the chorus, the groove reminds of the swaying style of a hip hop track. However, the song is nothing but a straight modern country song. And it is fun listening to.

3. Gone Country

The third song of the album is Gone Country. Originally released in June 2024, it has been the second song release of About A Woman. The song follows the song attitude as the predecessor: a very groovy, modern country track, which is having a nice feel-good vibe. Nice!

4. Beautiful As You

The first single release of the album, Beautiful As You, The song is more melodic, even though it has a nice groove and touch as well. The rather uptempo song has been streamed over 25 million times on Spotify only already – and there is a good reason for it. It is a beauty.

5. Can’t Love You Anymore

Can’t Love You Anymore interrupts the block of the four songs already released. The song is slower than the predecessor, but also comes with a typical Thomas Rhett melody. Rhett is again spreading this special vibe which makes you smile while listening to his songs.

6. After All The Bars Are Closed

This sounds like a typical country music track, doesn’t it? The last song on About A Woman already released slows down the pace slightly, but therefor pushes the emotional level similarly. Thomas Rhett does lovely stories in his 2024, even though the album also misses the surprising melodies so far. Maybe they pop up in the all-new songs thereafter?

7. Church

She took me to church are the catch words of the seventh song. The song leans towards a energetic country ballad, even though the backing vocals in the chorus will also be a good way to interact with the fans in future concerts.

8. Back To Blue

The first ten seconds of the 3:31 minute song Back To Blue show a joyful and easy melody. However, the song more and more develops to a groovy, slower country song. This one is another lovely option to party and sing-a-long with the artist.

9. Country For California

With very present steel guitar sounds, the slower Country For California is a song which might be a nice option for more traditional-style country music lovers. The melody is very catching – and the storytelling works well (as, somehow, always in Thomas Rhett songs).

10. Somethin’ ‘Bout A Woman

I guess you can name this one the “hidden title track” of About A Woman. I was asking for the surprises before – here it is! The sound of Somethin’ ‘Bout A Woman is truly unique in this album. It feels very groovy and rather sounds like an alternative blues rock track than a country song. Nice to listen to Thomas Rhett leaving his comfort zone – especially this one almost forces you to dance to the music.

11. What Could Go Right

Don’t think about what could go wrong just think about about what could go right – this phrase is so true in many situations of life. It is the key phrase of the eleventh track of the album. The very emotional and personal track comes with a beautiful atmosphere. Nice country pop song with ballad-esque attitudes, in which Thomas Rhett is here and there also using some unusual, but nice melody lines.

12. Boots

Boots is short but nice. In the just 2:25 minutes up-tempo song, Thomas Rhett mixes honky-tonk elements with rock’n’roll. Put out your dancing boots for this track, definitely. Yee-haw – this one is fun.

13. Don’t Wanna Dance

I don’t wanna dance with somebody – these words immediately make you think of Whitney Houston. Indeed, the first two lines of the chorus have certain similarities with the legendary song – also in the melody line. However, Thomas Rhett is putting a very own story and style to this song, which alters between piano and energetic sections. And, in order not to spoiler too much, there is also a somebody who loves me in it.

14. I Could Spend Forever Loving You

The album is About A Woman – how could the final message be more beautiful than I Could Spend Forever Loving You. I am not sure that this closing song is not only loved by his wife Lauren, but also by many listeners. I love this emotional closing of the album.

Thomas Rhett – About A Woman – My View

Thomas Rhett simply knows how to do music. Even though the album has a slight touch of similar songs at the beginning, you enjoy listening to the songs. In the second half of About A Woman, he dares to leave this style and shares some very interesting songs. Tracks like Somethin’ ‘Bout A Woman or Boots add a lot of value to it – especially they are so different. Another really good release by the US-American artist.

Favorite Song: Fool
