On 20th November 2024, I was able to report from an artist I had on my “bucket list” for quite a while. Welsh Laura Evans played at the Gaststätte Stock in Hagen am Teutoburger Wald as part of her European Tour 2024. Here is my review of the show of the country blues singer.

Gaststätte Stock – About The Venue
Gaststätte Stock (something like “Stock Tavern”) is a pub/restaurant located between Münster and Osnabrück in Germany. Despite the town Hagen am Teutoburger Wald, not to confuse with the major city in the Ruhrgebiet region) is not that large, the venue on the top floor has quite a nice capacity of 500. The rear, slightly separated part allows smoking, which did not disturb during the show. There are bus connections to Osnabrück, but in general it is more handy to go there by car. A special feature of this venue is that the concert is free entry. You are asked to leave a tip for the venue and the artist, though. While the attendance looked a bit of low some ten minutes before the show, Hagen showed up and there were some 200 to 300 people around for the concert.
Laura Evans – About The Artist
Laura Evans is a Welsh artist, born on 27th August 1986 in Aberdare. In her early teenage years, she got a scholarship from the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School in London. Some of her classmates were Billie Piper and Amy Winehouse. She pursued a career in acting and had some remarkable appearances as an actor on stage and in TV. She started her musical career with the country EP Remember When released in April 2014. In 2020, she released her sophomore EP, Running Back To You. Especially the title track was very successful, leading the domestic iTunes blues charts and even making it into the Top 50 of that genre in the United States. In 2022, Laura Evans released her debut album, State of Mind.
Laura Evans – The Show
The gig started slightly later than announced. Around 20:35, Laura Evans kicked off her almost 90 minute show at the Teutoburger Wald with Running Back To You. The setlist was a mixture of originals and covers in the range of country and blues. She also did a mixture of originals like Good At Getting Over (her second song) and Chris Stapleton’s Arkansas, which followed thereafter. Janis Joplin’s Mercedes Benz made the audience clap with the artist. However, especially the front of the audience partied to the originals like Fire with Fire, Solo or Mess of Me, which were all part of the first half of Evans’ show.
The later section of the show also featured Laura’ latest singles, What I’m Made Of and Heartbreaker. There were also some more covers. Especially Ben E. King’s Stand By Me made the people sing along with the Welsh artist and her band. The concert closed with a three song encore, consisting of State of Mind, Heartache Tonight (originally by The Eagles) and the chucker-out I’m alright, before Evans met up with the fans for pictures and selling some merchandise.

Laura Evans – My View
A nice venue with friendly people driving it and a great artist with a lovely set – if only there was not the snow on the road from Cologne, this evening in Hagen would have been close to a perfect country-blues evening. You can’t give Laura credits for the weather, so I really loved her performance. Glad I made it to this show – a really lovely evening and a really nice new concert place for me.
