Caylee Hammack (21st May 2025, Cologne)

On 21st May 2025, I headed to another Sound of Nashville show in Cologne. Caylee Hammack closed their short four stage European tour at the Yard Club. She was supported by Sid Bader, who is nowadays residing in the city. Here is my concert report.

This posting comes with 340 major size pictures as part of the concert gallery.

Yard Club – About The Venue

The Yard Club is the smaller indoor venue of Die Kantine in the North of Cologne. The last time I have been at the 250 spectator venue was the The Deslondes concert in Cologne in June 2023. In parrallel, the larger Die Kantine featured a sold out show of the Australian metalcore band Make Them Suffer. The venue complex is nicely connected by public transport. You can reach the venue by tram (lines 12 and 15, Wilhelm-Sollmann-Str. stop) or bus (line 122, Bremerhavener Str.) quite well and also until rather later hours. Parking is a bit of limited, though.

Caylee Hammack – About The Artists

Caylee Anna Hammack was born on 19th March 1994 in Ellaville, Georgia. She is a professional artist since 2018. One year later, she had one of her biggest songs, Family Tree. The song was part of her debut album If It Wasn’t for You, which was released in August 2020. In March 2025, she released her sophomore album Bed of Roses. I already featured Caylee Hammack in 2020, when she was on Saturday Main Stage of the Berlin Country To Country.

On this Cologne evening, she was supported by Swiss artist Sid Bader. He has recently been part of the side stage artists at the 2025 C2C in Berlin. In April 2025, I introduced you to the artist in a Spotlight interview. Bader was originally part of the band Smack!, before he decided to turn solo. In 2022, he made it to the live playoffs of The Voice of Germany. His blind audition song I Wanna Be Like You (The Monkey Song), originally from the The Jungle Book sound track, became his most famous and successful song. His new EP, Not A Poet, has been released in late March 2025.

Caylee Hammack – The Show

The concert was scheduled to begin on 19:00 – and Sid Bader stepped on stage right in time. Both acts were on stage on their own, just playing the guitar, which lead to a very intimate setting. Another factor for that was the rather low audience of some 50 people. One of the first songs Sid played was his very first single Time To Say Goodbye, released in 2022. He stated that Caylee just has this single German show in Cologne – and proudly added that he is thus supporting her on her whole national tour. The Cologne country music fan base partied with the local artist and cheered to his music, even when he shared some so far unpublished songs. With Toll, his fifth song, he headed back to his Not A Poet EP.

Here and there, he struggled with the plug of his guitar, but his great voice worked out well – and the people close to the stage heard his instrument anyway. Of course, he also played his Voice of Germany song, which was the seventh song of his 35 minute set. Cologne sang along with the artist, one young lady was even sitting at the edge of the stage, which lead to a very personal setting. His eighth and last song was his latest single release, Brutally Inclined. It concluded a really nice set, which also nicely fitted to the music Caylee Hammack presented thereafter.

Caylee Hammack’s Magical Evening in Cologne

There was not too much work to do to prepare the stage for Caylee Hammack – and thus, she already began her set after a short 15 minute intermission. Sidney Bader had called her a lovely person and sweetheart during her set – and the female country artist indeed fulfilled that expectation from the very first moment. Despite the ticket sales was rather disappointing – Caylee felt really thankful and smiled on stage. She stated that she was happy that so many people came to her very first show in town. She started with Bed of Roses and stated thereafter that in the Amsterdam show before, they told her not to play cover songs. Nonetheless, her next song All Or Nothing, included sections of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game. Another early song of her set was Redhead, which she originally published with Reba McEntire (the Queen of Redheads, how Caylee named her). She told a lot of stories and even spoke some words in German. She named Family Tree the cheapest song I ever recorded – and Cologne sang along with her.

With Cleo and No I ain’t, the set had two real highlights. About the latter song, Caylee adviced that if you’re in a bad heartbreak, you can sing that song to yourself, playing the guitar and the harmonica. Her set was also very thoughtful and emotional. Caterpillar, a song about the music industry, was one of the key ones. We all love butterflies, but we kill caterpillars. I am still a caterpillar in the music industry. At this Yard Club evening, nobody wanted to kill Caylee, definitely. They loved her set. How Long was the emotional highlight of her concert. Not only Sid Bader, who stood in the back of the audience, holding his girlfriend closely, was very touched by the fine song. At Kara, Caylee made clear that the ex-girlfriend of her ex-boyfriend was right about her judgement. The concert closed with Small Town Hypocrite, another song about a failed relation. Her former boyfriend needed more space… and then ended up with moving to a new lady living in a trailer.. with three kids. That’s the kind of stories a good songwriter writes good stories about… and Caylee underlined her excellence in that discipline. The show ended at 21:05 already, after memorable 75 minutes.

Caylee Hammack – My View

After the set, Caylee Hammack headed straight to the merchandise booth, hugged people and took a lot of pictures. There was hardly anybody who left, most people stayed to thank her and connect to her and Sid Bader. She absolutely deserved that. The evening in Cologne was magical, an excellent show. I was really sad about the low sales. Having a so little audience for her show makes me struggle to believe that country music in Germany is really growing. The more I am thankful to the organizer and of course to Caylee herself that they did not cancel this one. The people who have been in Cologne on that Wednesday evening will definitely come back the next time she is in town. I had to leave early to start working on this report – but look forward to see her back on stage.
