  • Very fluent, harmonic listen

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Seven track / 25 minutes is too short for an album

Apart from Willie Nelson and his family, the key reason why I traveled to Bethel Woods in August 2026 was Sheryl Crow. I absolutely enjoyed her set at the legendary stage. Of course, she already teased her new album Pick You Up at this occasion. Fans of the US American artist can listen to it on 9th October 2026. Here is my review.

Sheryl Crow – About The Artist

Sheryl Crow was born on 11th February 1962 in Kennett, Missouri. She is a rock musician, who is also influenced by country and pop elements. During her high school years, she was a promising athlete in track and field. In 1983, she started to follow a professional career in music. In 1993, she released her debut album Tuesday Night Music Club. The album peaked third in the United States, but was a global success with Top 10 placements in Australia, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and other markets.

A key driver for that was the third single release, All I Wanna Do (1994), which topped the charts in Australia and Canada. Another big song by Sheryl Crow is If It Makes You Happy (1996). Overall, she released twelve studio albums so far. In 2023, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She is also working as an actress.

Sheryl Crow – Pick You Up – Track by Track

The seven track album lasts 25 minutes.

1. Freight Train

Freight train
Crying in the middle of the night
A whistle blows
I hear it though it’s nowhere in sight

The album starts with one of the two previously released tracks, Freight Train. The song is calm, unagitated listen, which feels dreaming and very harmonic. That also leads to a strong focus on Sheryl’s voice. For almost four minutes, you dream away into the sphere created by artist. A nice opener, somewhere between country, folk and rock.

2. Perfect

Already the first seconds of Perfect tell you that the guitars take a stronger role in this song. Nonetheless, Sheryl stays rather slow and calm, the song feels like one or her traditional recordings. When she states I wish I was perfect in your eyes, you simply feel urged to have your fingers crossed. I really like this one.

3. Pick You Up

I’ve come to pick you up
If it’s the last thing I do
Gonna get out of this rut
Light up a good luck fuse

At the beginning of the Pick You Up record, the song feel to become faster, more intense. The title track is just in line with that. The songs feel to gently lead into this lovely blending of rock and Americana elements, which made Sheryl Crow famous. The song allows you to listen to her story and reflect about it. The basis of the song is lovely storytelling – and it becomes lovely by beautiful songwriting.

4. Flat Earth

Flat Earth beats the crescendo of songs. The fourth song of the album does have a nice presence as well, but is slower again. This emphasizes the thoughtful, reflecting attitude. I especially like the chorus which spreads a lot of harmony.

5. I’ve Got Your Number

The song is called I’ve Got Your Number as well as I got your number in my press kit. The slow vibe in the stanzas, which develops an increased volume towards the chorus, leads to a beautiful flow and gentle listen.

I got your number
I kinda think I know, kinda think I know, know your kind
I got your number
Cause it’s the same as mine

6. Heaven Help Us

Bad luck that Pick You Up is already about to come to an end. Heaven Help Us is already its penultimate track. The groove is a bit stronger than in the song. The rhythmic style and the strings in the background during the chorus add country vibes, but also also lead to a certain pop touch.

7. Freedom Bus (feat. Jesse Welles)

The closing track Freedom Bus has also been the first single release of the album. Crow recorded the song together with Jesse Welles, a singer-songwriter and guitarist from Arkansas. The chorus of the song is at close as it gets on this album towards her 1990’s classics.

Sheryl Crow – Pick You Up – My View

There is one sad and disappointing moment while listening to Pick You Up: the end of Freedom Bus. Regarding this one is sold as an album, it simply feels too short. What a shame, as it would be an excellent EP. The seven songs lead to a very fluent listen, the storytelling is excellent and you can easily follow Sheryl Crow and her narrations. It’s nonetheless a Top Pick! to me. However, if she once release a deluxe, extended or whatever version of this one, I would feel cheated as a fan.
