If you are looking for a great female country music artist from Germany, you simply have to name Alina Sebastian. I absolutely loved the show she had in Hamm in April 2025 – and featuring another of her shows is definitely high on my list. On 7th August 2026, she released a new album, supported by crowdfunding of her fans. Here is my review of Makin’ a mess.

 

Alina Sebastian – About The Artist

Alina Sebastian is a German artist based in Osnabrück in Northwest Germany. She is blending country music with pop and other influences. In 2023, she released her debut album Eyes of the Highway. With some 50 shows per year, she is very active as a live musician as well. For example, she played at the Truck Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, but also in European locations outside Germany and in the USA. Makin’ a mess is her sophomore album.

 

Alina Sebastian – Makin’ a mess – Track by Track

The twelve song album lasts 38 minutes.

1. I’m a mess

Alina Sebastian starts her 2026 album with a song, which is somehow the title track of it. The song is a country-pop track with good vibes – even though the song tells also about situation in which she struggling. Nonetheless, I like the easy feelings she is spreading with this one. The bridge adds a really nice, additional flavor to the listen.

2. Town that broke me

The second song, Town that broke me, comes with a significantly darker and more rocking side. The energetic style of the song leads to a very catching and intense listen – I absolutely like it.

3. Adventure in your eyes

The first three songs of Makin’ a mess present three very different styles. After the country-pop opener and the more rocking song thereafter, Adventure in your eyes is rather on the ballad side. Alina sounds fragile, vulnerable, but also very close to the listener. This personal style leads to a striking listen.

4. Can’t remember how to stay

Can’t remember how to stay is another rather personal and fine song. At the beginning, Alina is only accompanied by the acoustic guitar, but the song develops a more present sound thereafter. However, it closes in a rather quiet way again. Beautiful.

5. Don’t kiss the devil

Don’t kiss the devils nicely works towards the chorus, which is its energetic highlight. Having already almost listened to the first half of the album, I also admire Alina’s vocal versatility. The fine and fragile parts sound as convincing as the self-confident and tougher songs, like this one.

6. Whiskey Lips

Alina’s debut album featured a Whiskey Lullaby – and what would a country album be without that alcoholic reference? The rather slow Whiskey Lips come with an intense atmosphere. It’s somehow unfortunate that this song is the shortest on the album – I really like it and would love having some kind of encore.

7. Without you

‘Cause the sky is falling down without you – this one is about love. The dramatic, rocking setting of the seventh track of Makin’ a mess nicely underlines the struggle and feelings Sebastian shares in here. The contrast of intense guitar parts and rather quiet episodes define a very interesting listen.

8. Almost forgot

Out of the songs released before the album itself, the melodic Almost forgot has been one of my favorites. The beautiful flow, the lovely storytelling simply give you a country-pop country song. And these elements make it easy listening to the artist’s message.

9. Dirty little Liars

The electric guitars are playing a key role again. Dirty little Liars comes with the most straight and angry chorus of the album. The song feels very modern. Such a shame that is solely comes with 12k streams on Spotify so far.

10. See you soon

See you soon is one of my favorite Alina Sebastian songs. The rather traditional setting, which is, however, driven by very present drumming, leads to a good mood and dancing vibes. You just have to smile and enjoy these 2:32 minutes.

11. Summer Rain (acoustic)

The album closes with two acoustic tracks. Summer Rain and Until I do are new songs, though. The setting leads to a very personal and direct listen and reminds of the Acoustic Country Nights Alina is doing together with David Tarakona. Furthermore, just having the guitar and scattered harmonica parts in here leads to a lovely focus on the artist’s voice.

12. Until I do (acoustic)

Until I do feels like the perfect fade-out and farewell of Makin’ a mess. The song is an absolutely lovely singer-songwriter track. Very well done!

Alina Sebastian – Makin’ a mess – My View

Wow, Alina! I expected a really good album, but Makin’ a mess in fact exceeded my expectations. The German artist underlines that she should receive much more support from the German country music scene than she currently does. Lovely songwriting and a beautiful range of songs – there is always something new in stock on this record. I highly recommend giving this one a try.
