  • Great songwriting and storytelling
  • Nice variety of songs

When I prepared the review of the album Rise & Fall by Scotty McCreery, I was quite amazed that it is indeed the first time I introduce you to an album by the US-American country artist. The career of the North Carolina-origin boosted massively during the last some ten years. From an American Idol contestant in 2011, he very recently became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Rise & Fall is his sixth studio album, released on 10th May 2024.

Scotty McCreery – About The Artist

Scotty McCreery was born in Garner on 9th October 1993. He also grey up in North Carolina, where he received initial merits in regional singing contests. In 2011, he auditioned for American Idol at the age of 16. He finally won the tenth season of the show, which also lead to his first single release. I Love You This Big peaked 11th in the US single charts and 21st in the Canadian ones (both non-genre-specific charts and lead to a platinum record in the USA. The corresponding debut album Clear as Day, released in October 2011, topped the US overall and US Country album charts and peaked fourth in Canada. So far, he released four additional albums, including the 2012 holiday release, Christmas with Scotty McCreery. Thereafter, See You Tonight (2013) and Seasons Change (2018) both topped the US Country Album Charts again. The 2021 Same Truck “just” made it to the Top 10 in that ranking.

Scotty McCreery – Rise & Fall – Track by Track

The thirteen track album lasts 45 minutes

1. Little More Gone

The opener sets the direction for the album. The country music sound is rather traditional. However, apart from the virtuous piano lines, it is majorly the groovy bass which defines Little More Gone on the instrumental side. This also leads to a touch of blues and a cool vibe.

2. Cab In A Solo

Half of the Rise & Fall songs have already been released as singles. The most successful song of that campaign is definitely Cab In A Solo. Almost seven months after the original release, the song is still working out well. The rather slow, but very direct style with a good vibe is simply awesome.

3. Lonely

Lonely has been the last single release before the album. The 26th April 2024 publication is a slow and melancholic, which also makes it very touching and emotional. despite the ather long duration of 4:32 minutes, this song stays entertaining and a good listen over its full duration.

4. Can’t Pass The Bar

Can’t Pass The Bar is the first song of the album, which has a clear rock’n’roll beat. The song is made to party and to have a cold one while listening to it. A lot of speed and a good beat guarantee a lot of fun with this track.

5. Hey Rose

After this block of three previous single release, Hey Rose is not only one of the so-far unreleased tracks, but also a lovely ballad. The fifth track is definitely one of the emotional highlights of the album. I like the slight touch of kitsch in it.

6. Fall of Summer

The 3:44 song Fall of Summer is a bit of mousy at first listen. The mid-tempo is thereby not a bad country track at all. It is just coming with a warm and nice atmosphere, which is lacking a bit of characteristic elements. Only the keyboard drops some special moments here and there.

7. Love Like This

The next two songs are already known tunes again. The proud father states I’ve never known a love like this at the beginning of the chorus. If an excellent songwriter and storyteller like Scotty McCreery is writing about a topic like this, a lovely listen is almost guaranteed. Of course, he does not disappoint the listener.

8. Slow Dance

The eighth song is another emotional one. Scotty McCreery is definitely having a couple of good songs for your romantic moments on Rise & Fall. The song comes with a lovely and gentle melody. You can’t praise the lyrics sufficiently again. And the vibes of the song stay in your mind. Lovely.

9. No Country For Old Men

The tempo of no Country For Old Menis slightly increased compared to the predecessors. The rhythm of the ninth song of Rise & Fall lets you at least sway to groove of the song. I really like this one.

10. And Countin’

This song opens with a groovy bass part. Overall, the song feels like very cool. The small breaks in it lead to a really characteristic style. Nonetheless, the chorus as such is a straight one and also leads to some potential for a country music dance.

11. Stuck Behind a Tractor

The rather easy and rhythmic melody of Stuck Behind a Tractor makes the song almost feel like country-pop in the context of this album. A bit of a mainstream touch in Rise & Fall, which is among my favorite listens of the release.

12. Red Letter Blueprint

Where can you go when you ain’t getting nowhere?Every turn is a dead end roadThe rain starts to fall and you’re so lost out thereReally only one place I knowWhen your whole world falls to piecesAnd you don’t know how to build it backThere’s a red letter blueprint in King James black

The last single release presented on this album brings you back to the emotional and melancholic side. The slower track is thereby very touching. Another really beautiful listen.

13. Porch

The last three minutes of the album belong to Porch. The song is just in line with other songs of the album. Maybe it is slightly closer to North American mainstream tunes than most of the other tracks on Rise & Fall.

Scotty McCreery – Rise & Fall – My View

I feel that Scotty McCreery did an amazing job. Rise & Fall has its own style, but the songs don’t get boring. There is also a nice range of tracks. I did praise the lovely storytelling by the US-American artist. You just cannot emphasize sufficiently on that fact.

Favorite Song: Love Like This
