A Viking doing modern country? Sounds like a weird Scandinavian story – but in fact the artist is a Canadian actor, who played in the TV series Vikings. After years of acting, Alexander Ludwig is now also going for music. On 21st May 2021, he released his self-titled debut EP.
Alexander Ludwig – About The Artist
Alexander Ludwig was born on 7th May 1992 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His father Harald Horst Ludwig is German, his mother Sharlene is a former actress. Depending on the source, Ludwig is feels to have a double citizenship, German and Canadian, but I could not validate it. He became popular as an actor and already played roles during teenage years. Some of the most famous roles he played were in The Seeker: The Dark is Rising (2007) and The Hunger Games (2012). His likely biggest role so far is likely Bjorn in the series Vikings, which has been broadcasted on history channel.
Music has already played been an important role in Ludwig’s life. His debut single was Liv It Up (Teenage Wasteland), it has already been released in 2012. In January 2020, Ludwig released the single Let Me Be Your Whiskey.

1. Love Today

The song starts with some powerful riffs, before the opening song turns into a straight 2:45 minute modern country song. The hey shouts in the chorus even have a touch of potential stadium and festival fun. Promising, indeed.
2. Sunset Town
The second track on the EP is slower. The country music ballad is one of favorite tracks of the EP. Just that sort of lean back – enjoy- feel comfortable – country songs.
3. How It Rolls
The middle track of these five songs has more power again. A very straight and modern song about a night going out. The story might not be that deep and complex, but it is definitely a song to enjoy. Very well produced song.

4. Malibu Blue
Malibu Blue is arranged rather traditionally. The slow track thus spreads the highest level of country music spirit – at least if you are sometimes missing the good old times in the genre. Without a doubt, this song is also a good listen for modern country lovers. A big factor in Malibu Blue is also that Ludwig’s vocal performance is the best one on the EP. Finally, this turns the track into my favorite as well.
5. Summer Crazy
I felt good at the beginning of Alexander Ludwig, I did not change that feeling while listening to the other songs – and the closing track gives me a good vibe. Nice work on the guitars, a powerful song. Good finish.

You can’t argue against that this guy is having quite some talent – not just as an actor, but also on the the music side of his career. In his self-titled EP, Ludwig shows five really nice country track with a decent variety. A really good listen – and of course, there is a certain level of pride that this guy is at least somehow German as well. Congrats, good debut EP!
