  • Spacious room with nice mountain view
  • Funny parking garage

For my June 2020 stay in the Salzburger Land / Berchtesgadener Land area, I decided to go for two nights in the Avalon Hotel in Bad Reichenhall. The city is quite famous for his salines as well as his casino – though I have to admit I visited neither of them. Here are my thoughts about the stay.

Avalon Bad Reichenhall – Location

The hotel is located right opposite Bad Reichenhall train station – so if you arrive by rail, it may be the perfect hotel choice. Bad Reichenhall is comparably close to the Salzburg to Munich autobahn / highway as well. Crossing the border from Bavaria / Germany to Austria is less than fifteen minutes. Most of the attractions and cities are somehow connected by bus and public transport – but I would rather prefer to go for a car when travelling around.

The location of the hotel is very central. There are also supermarkets close to the train station, which allow you to care for your daily supply.

Avalon Bad Reichenhall – Room

For two nights over a June weekend, I went for the Deluxe Room with balcony, which was a 178 Euro rate (flex rate) including breakfast. The room was really spacious, very nice design, with a small sofa and a workdesk. The minibar was replaced by a 24 hours free room bar service, which I feel to be a smart move during Covid-19 times. I really loved the room in this four star rated place.

The shower bathroom was really nice as well. There were sufficient amenities provided. I liked the tiny bath radio on the wall for a good start into the day.

The balcony was a quite nice add-on to the room. You had a lovely view over the nearby Alps.

Avalon Bad Reichenhall – Breakfast / Food

The hotel really invested a bunch of thoughts of how to deal the Covid-19 situation in breakfast times. There was a one-way situation already at the elevators – you could only use one out of two elevator locations to reach the beautiful top floor breakfast rooms. The lovely breakfast buffet had two one-way slopes – one for tea, juice, cereals and bread and all the other one for chilled stuff like cold cuts, fruit, yogurt and similar. You could order fresh made eggs and Bavarian white sausage (Weisswurst) right at your table, which was a lovely treat.

The room was spacious and organized in different breakfast time slots. You could also sit outside, which was likely a bit of chilly during my visit. Overall, the breakfast performance and the staff around it was just A++, amazing! Bad luck that some of the hotel guests even did not make to manage the clear and thought-through structures.

Avalon Bad Reichenhall – Service

The staff in the hotel was really great. I felt welcome from the very first moment of checking in. The WiFi worked out fine as well, I explored minor issues – which is likely quite natural in that region. The hotel offers a sauna currently, which I did not check out. In the basement, they are currently building an improved sauna area and a major gym. The target date for this refurbishing was the winter 2020, which they said might be slightly missed.

A really fun thing of staying at the Avalon Hotel Bad Reichenhall was the parking garage in the basement level of the hotel. Due to limited space, you drive your car into an elevator and go down. Very funny thing – but of course very safe and effective usage of space.

Avalon Bad Reichenhall – My View

Staying at the Avalon Hotel Bad Reichenhall was a superb experience. Good staff, good concepts and a great location leads to really good hospitality. If you are looking for a stay in that area, I definitely recommend the Avalon to you!
