  • Nicely and conveniently located hotel
  • Nice lounge with excellent Happy Hour service.

The 244 room Hilton Heidelberg is one of Germany’s newer Hilton hotels. It opened in late 2023, the building formerly hosted a Crowne Plaza and the traditional Hotel Schrieder. As I was looking for a relaxing place with air conditioning over the weekend, I finally checked out the place in the 2026 summer heat of my home country. Here is my review.

Hilton Heidelberg – Location

The hotel is very centrally located. It is just steps away (or one tram stop) from Bismarckplatz, one of the key spots in Central Heidelberg. Right across the street, there is a grocery store, which is open until midnight (apart from Sunday, when stores are closed). You can also reach several touristic spots from the Hilton Heidelberg very easily. Apart from the facilities offered by the accommodation itself, there are numerous restaurants around the hotel.

You can get to the hotel very easily by public transport as well. The stop Seegarten is right in front of the hotel, served by numerous public transport options. The most important ones are likely tram lines 5 and 21 as well as bus 35, as those connect to Heidelberg Main Station (3 stops, roughly five minutes). The hotel also drives an own parking garage, which is 25 EUR per night.

Hilton Heidelberg – Room

I had two nights at the Hilton Heidelberg, from Friday to Sunday in July 2026. The total room rate for the King Room I booked was 245.41 EUR. My Hilton Honors Diamond status lead to an complimentary upgrade to a King Executive Room as well as complimentary breakfast. The room had a really nice size and overall felt comparably modern. I generally struggle with round work desks – not too much of critics to the hotel itself, but to the branding/design guidelines by Hilton. There were two free power sockets next to that table. I also liked that the Executive Rooms include a minibar with complimentary soft drinks, which was restocked by housekeeping. The room was also rather quiet, you just heard very limited noise from other guests in the adjacent rooms or walking through the hallway. The air conditioning worked well.

Compared to the living and sleeping area, the bathroom in my room was rather on the limited side. For a person with my body size, I would even name it narrow. Nonetheless, the sink area was very large and allowed a lot of space for your personal items. The shower was also rather nice. There was simply not too much space between those two. The cleaning of the room was very good. Especially in the bathroom, there were some rather clear marks, likely from previous customers.

Hilton Heidelberg – Executive Lounge

My Diamond status and thus the Executive Room also gave me access to the Executive Lounge of the hotel. At a first glance, it is not very inviting, being located behind a door more or less right next to the reception area. However, once you are behind the door, you enter a really cosy area. The front area is bistro-alike with tables and chairs, while the rear with sofas and more comfortable options really feels welcoming and relaxing. It also hosts a big TV screen. I felt that they turned down the air conditioning a bit too hard, but overall really liked the place. If you want to work there during daytime, though, you might struggle with the lack of power outlets – quite strange for a that recently updated place. On the positive side, the opening hours from 7:00 to 22:00 are very comfortable.

The Hilton Heidelberg gives happy hour service from 18:00 to 20:00. These happy hours should just provide an evening snack, but a beef goulash with Swabian Spätzle pasta definitely exceeded my expectations – and was absolutely lovely. The lounge also served some salads, bread and even cake – which lead to an amazing experience. The second evening meal was meatballs with potato wedges and barbecue sauce, which again was really nice and came with different salads, bread and dessert as well. Outside breakfast service and happy hour, the service was rather sparse,. At least, there were some nuts and fruit.

Hilton Heidelberg – Breakfast

I really liked that the name of the restaurant, which is located right next to the reception, refers to the former hotel in that building. Schrieder’s Restaurant is also used for breakfast and overall, a really nice place. The hotel offers a good breakfast, with a good variety of items. Especially in regards of egg dishes, though, there is solely scrambled egg and not (at least no obvious) option to order dishes other than those.

Hilton Heidelberg – Service

The reception staff was very friendly and check-in went very smoothly. At check-out, I just left my key at the desk – the lines at the reception were long on that Sunday late morning, also due to some customers which open issues. The quality of the WiFi connection was very good during the entire stay as well. Fun fact: the Hilton Heidelberg does not have a too intense relation with dustbins. There is none in the Executive Lounge, despite they have fruit and and other items (there is just the typical tiny one for bottle caps close to the fridge. Even the toilet next to reception (which is the one to be used for the lounge lacks one at the sink.

Hilton Heidelberg does not have a spa or pool area. There is a gym, though, which is located on first basement level. While the walk there might not be the most inviting one, the fitness room is really nice and comes with a good selection and quality of exercising machines. Finally, that room was definitely better than the one at the Five Star Superior Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg I stayed at the week before. On premise, the hotel also offers a dinner show.

Hilton Heidelberg – My View

I had a really good time at the Hilton Heidelberg. The location is very handy, the Executive Lounge service at Happy Hour is excellent. I just had a few very minor issues during the stay, which I mentioned above. Overall, I definitely recommend staying in this one. As it is the only Hilton Group option in town, the hotel may be rather packed during your stay there.
