Just a week after I stayed at the Mercure Cologne City Friesenstrasse, I tried out another hotel of the Accor Hotel brand. I have been in the Mercure Hotel Severinshof Cologne City already for some seminars, but my stay in July 2023 has in fact been the first time I had a night there.
Mercure Hotel Severinshof Cologne City – Location
The hotel is located right at the Severinstraße, one of Cologne’s most famous and vibrant streets. There are various shopping and dining opportunities, especially South of the hotel. Vice versa, it is just a short walk to the shopping district of Cologne, if you don’t favor public transport.
The traffic situation is excellent: you are right at the Severinsbrücke crossing the river Rhine if you come by car. There are three tram lines (3, 4, 17) servicing the Severinstraße stop right next to the hotel. On top, there are two buses, 106 and 132. Once tram lines 5 and 17 will be connected in a couple of years, this will also lead to a direct connection to Cologne Main Station.
Mercure Hotel Severinshof Cologne City – Room
I booked a superior room in July 2023, the night was from Tuesday to Wednesday. I used a non-public rate for the Mercure Hotel Severinshof Cologne City. A typical room rate outside major events is 100 to 120 EUR. The room was very nice. Having a niche with a work desk initially felt a bit of weird, but lead to a touch of a junior suite. The down side of the room design is that you cannot watch TV from the desk. The spacious room’s mini bar featured a complimentary bottle of water and some nuts, which I highly appreciated. Despite the central location, the room was really quiet There was also sufficient power outlets and storage facilities.
The shower bathroom of the Mercure was really nice as well. Just having a soap dispenser and a body wash / shampoo combination as amenity is maybe a bit of limited, but was in line with the Mercure Hotel Cologne City Friesenstrasse I checked out the week before. Overall, the room, the comfort and the space at the Severinshof was much better than the stay at the local peer.
Mercure Hotel Severinshof Cologne City – Breakfast
Breakfast is charged with 17.85 EUR. The breakfast restaurant is really large – you see that the hotel is hosting a lot of meetings and seminars. They offer a nice range of warm and cold dishes. Unfortunately, the live cooking station has not been used during my stay. However, the wide range of bread, healthy, sweet and savory options definitely compensated for it. I really enjoyed the start of the day at the Mercure Severinshof.
Mercure Hotel Severinshof Cologne City- Service
Check-in and check-out was friendly and straight. The free hotel WiFi worked absolutely well. Even though located right next to the large (two-level) parking garage of the hotel, the gym of the hotel is a beauty. There is a small water spring which adds a lot of atmosphere. In afternoon hours, you may also have a sweat in the sauna of the hotel. A really fun service is that the hotel lobby features a popcorn machine – I rarely saw that in a hotel.
Mercure Hotel Severinshof Cologne City – My View
The Mercure has a good reputation in Cologne – and my visit there definitely underlined that this is absolutely right. The hotel has an excellent location and a great service. I liked the room and the breakfast. Very good performance and a great value for money – definitely a Top Pick!
