Covering the World Floorball Championship Qualification in January 2025 almost failed. The rationale for that was finding a suitable accommodation. The hosting holiday village Bella Italy in Lignano Sabbiadoro came with multiple issues (unreliable WiFi, no work desk). Despite the area between Venice and Udine being very touristic, it was not too easy to find a spot which fulfilled my – rather basic – needs: a bed, a work desk, a parking lot, breakfast and reliable internet connection (especially the latter was really an issue). I finally found the Il Milione Country House in Palazzo dello Stella – some 30 minutes away from the venue, but apart from that with a perfect profile. Here is my review of the stay.
Il Milione Country House – Location
The hotel is located on the Udinese countryside, a some one hour drive from Venice. It is located more than a kilometer away from the next major road, geographically located in the city of Palazzolo dello Stella, next to the city of Latisana. Nonetheless, it is quite nicely located as it is rather close to the A4 motorway connecting Milan and Venice with Trieste. You in fact even see the motorway toll booth from the Il Milione Country House.
Due to its remote location, the touristic infrastructure is rather sparse. The two cities nearby offer restaurants and stores. There is also a gas station and a restaurant at the next major road. You should definitely have a car when you visit it.
Il Milione Country House – Room
I had three nights in the place in late January 2025, from Wednesday to Saturday. The daily room rate, including breakfast, for the double room (single useage), including breakfast, was 90 EUR. The room was located on the second floor of the building. However, as they have an elevator, there was no issue about that, even with my heavy camera equipment. The room overlooking the wineyards and farming fields was really nice and had plenty of space. I had some issues as the power outlet at the work desk was behind the fridge / mini bar and thus blocked by furniture. The hosts provided me with an extension cord. Furthermore, one of the wooden blinds needed maintenance.
The bathroom with shower and bidet definitely got its job done. Basic amenities were provided in small plastic bottles and as packaged soap. There were sufficient towels. The Il Milione Country House did daily house keeping, which I did not necessarily expect at a place of this kind. Apart from the window issue, the room was in perfect condition and clean. There is also heating / air conditioning in the room.
Il Milione Country House – Breakfast
Of course, you don’t get luxurious breakfast at a place like this, but I really liked it. The hosts were very friendly and also offered earlier breakfast if you needed an earlier meal than the ordinary time (8:00). Egg dishes were made fresh to order. There was a nice selection of sweet items as well as cheese and cold cuts as well. Overall, the breakfast absolutely met my expectations.
Il Milione Country House – Service
The hosts of the Il Milione Country House were really friendly. They also spoke English at a very fine level. I also fell in love with their friendly dog. There were minor lags with the WiFi reception in the hotel, which overall worked very well. I have to say, though, that I have partially been the only guest. At the rear of the house, there is also a really nice outdoor pool. It was obviously not operating in January, which explains the green touch of the water in there.
Il Milione Country House – My View
I really liked my stay at the Il Milione Country House. I could imagine that the place is a lovely spot for a spring to fall, when you can also make you of the swimming pool. The hosts are very friendly and relaxed. You have to deal with the rather remote location, though.
