In order to visit three Rock of Ages shows in Duisburg in May 2025 (not the one I covered as a photographer), I needed a one night stay in Duisburg. Not only due to my Deutsche Hospitality status, I went for the IntercityHotel Duisburg, which felt to give a nice leverage of location and price. Here is my review.

 

IntercityHotel Duisburg – Location

The hotel is located right next to Duisburg Main Station. The station features a couple of basic restaurants and shopping facilities. It is located to the high speed national and international rail network of Deutsche Bahn and his partners. Of course, there are regional and local connections in the Ruhrgebiet region as well. The city center of Duisburg is also in walking distance.

Due to its location, the hotel is a perfect choice if you are on a rail trip. Public local transport by bus and underground is also just a short walk away. I arrived by car, due to the late second show on the second day. The daily parking fee is 19 EUR.

 

IntercityHotel Duisburg – Room

I had a one night stay at the hotel, Friday to Saturday. The refundable rate for the standard room was 87.12 EUR. My H-Rewards Gold status gave me free breakfast. My room on the first floor came with the typical, modern IntercityHotel design. I especially like the map behind the bed which shows the location of the hotel. The large work desk has been another nice feature of the room. The hallway also included a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. I also liked the luggage rack in that area. Overall, the room felt a bit of compact, but very suitable for a city stay or a trip to the Ruhrgebiet region.

There were no surprises on the bathroom side as well. The design was in line with the typical one. I especially like the IntercityHotel-branded items and accessories. Amenities are provided in dispensers. Like the whole room, the bathroom felt modern and well-maintained. The room was very well cleaned as well.

 

IntercityHotel Duisburg – Breakfast

I was at breakfast rather late, so that I could not take that many pictures of the breakfast area. However, the large area has been very nice. IntercityHotels have improved their breakfast quality over the last years significantly, so that I really enjoy the one in Duisburg again. There is a really nice range of warm and cold dishes as well as a good selection of bread and healthy items. The IntercityHotel Duisburg also featured a pancake maker. I also really liked the good service on the buffet, so that all breakfast items have been available the whole time. Fun fact: parts of the tables have been reserved for the players of the soccer team MSV Duisburg, who feel to have their team hotel at this place.

 

IntercityHotel Duisburg – Service

The staff was really friendly and helpful. Check-in was a bit of slow, but not in a bothering way. The hotel is providing free and good WiFi. German IntercityHotels typically don’t feature health facilities like a gym.

 

IntercityHotel Duisburg – My View

I had a really nice stay at the IntercityHotel in Duisburg. The location is very convenient, the staff is nice and the hotel pleases all typical traveler needs. Thus, I absolutely liked my stay there. The parking fees, especially regarding it is an open parking lot, felt slightly high, though.
