Flyctory.com Pros

  • Large habitats and huge area
  • Interact with some animals
  • Well-serviced

Having a nice walk in the (somewhat) nature and meeting some animals out there – the weather was just too tempting when my wife decided to Wildpark Poing near Munich. The deer park came with good reviews and we had a Hertz rental car on that day anyway – so it felt like a great opportunity to check this place out. Here is my review, based on a visit in March 2024.

Wildpark Poing – Location & Access

Poing is a Eastern suburb of Munich. it is connected by S-Bahn commuter rail to the third largest city in Germany. As the large park is located in the forest West of the park, you likely go there by car. The bus stop Schwabener Straße, which is served by three bus lines (459, 461, 462), still leaves a walking distance of some 15 minutes. The park is very popular, especially on the weekends, so that it drives two major major parking lots (free parking).

Adult admission to the Wildpark Poing is 11.50 EUR. Winter (November to March) admission times are 9:00 to 16:00, in summer the entrance desk is open one hour longer. You can leave the park also thereafter, until dawn, through one of the revolving gate exits.

Wildpark Poing – The Visit

With 570,000 square meters, Wildpark is really huge. The round trip walk through the park is roughly four kilometers long. Thus, you should plan in some time for your visit. The round trip walk is nicely signed, there are information screens throughout the park. Unfortunately, these are given in German only and cover information about the animals as well as the plants and trees in the park. The habitats are typically really large, just birds and some smaller animals live in rather major cages. Some animals like smaller deer and sheep are also running around the park, only held in a certain area by cattle grades.

The pictures majorly follow the chronological order in which we visited Wildpark Poing. Thus, the first animals we met right after the entrance gates were guinea pigs. However, you soon thereafter run into the first smaller deer and sheep, who might urge you for feed. Better don’t wear your best clothes, especially when it has been raining before. However, the park has much to offer than those animals. There are also wolves, storks, swans and other types of domestic birds.

Eagles and Bears in Poing

While you get rather close to many of the animals in the parks, some are of course protected from the visitors. There are for example falcons and eagles in the accipitrids section. In the Northern section of the park, you can not only make friends with donkeys, but also explore bears and fallow deer. Their habitats are huge, so that you might only see them from quite a distance. This, vice versa, also means that these species follow a life which is rather close to their natural behavior. Thereafter, we visited smaller birds and boars. In that Southern part of Wildpark poing, you can also watch foxes, wisents and pot-bellied pig. Thereafter, you get back to the habitat of sheep and smaller deer, who “ask” you for some snacks.

Wildpark Poing – Services

There is a central kiosk in the park, which also features a nice picnic area. At certain spots, there are also playgrounds, which make Wildpark Poing a lovely place to visit for families with kids. At several spots throughout the park, including the kiosk and the entrance desk, you can buy boxes with animal feed. Of course, this is not suitable for all the animals in the park, but we absolutely loved to interact with some of them. There is also a bird show for the major birds, which we did not attend due to timing issues.

Wildpark Poing – My View

We really loved hanging out at the Wildpark Poing, Even though it was quite early in 2024, it was a lovely place to hang out and explore all the animals in this park. The location is a bit of remote, but that leads to large habitats. The animals are not forced to interact with the visitors as well. I would absolutely recommend it. We spend over three hours in there.
