Flyctory.com Cons

  • Limited atmosphere
  • No food (and no hot drinks) 90 minutes before closing

Having a Thursday evening flight with British Airways gave me a comparably rare opportunity for a lounge review at my home town airport. While I used the former Lufthansa Lounge, now The Lounge in the Schengen area at Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN) multiple times already, it was time for the sister lounge in April 2025. Here is my review of the Non-Schengen The Lounge at Terminal 2 of the airport. It is driven by Global Lounge Network.

The Lounge Non-Schengen Cologne/Bonn – Location & Access

The Lounge is located in the rear part of Terminal 2 of Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN), where only Non-Schengen flights are operated. This also means that the lounge, which is opposite of gate D50, is after passport control, which is a major advantage. The place was formerly used by Air Berlin before their dissolving. It is located on the upper level, above the usual gate area. You can either use stairs or an elevator to get there.

The Lounge operates daily from 5:00 to 22:00. Our flight left at 21:55, we arrived at the place around 20:00. It majorly serves Eurowings (Non-Schengen), British Airways and Turkish Airlines. They also cooperate with Marabu and Nile Air. Please note that flights like the Eurowings service to Dubai (DWC) departs that early that you cannot use the lounge. It also does not work for many of the night flights to Türkiye. You can also access the place with Dragon Pass and Priority Pass. The buy-in is 35 EUR (for up to four hours).

The Lounge Non-Schengen Cologne/Bonn – Atmosphere

Actually, the atmosphere in the Non-Schengen The Lounge at Cologne/Bonn (CGN) is not that inviting, and also feels a bit of boring. There are a few tables with seats at the large glass front. The majority of the seats feature single sofas with small side tables next to it. There are a few power outlets around, in addition to ones being in the ground of the aisles, which are practically not usable. Some power outlets are also located in the small tables. Dividers add some privacy. The buffet is next to the reception desk.

The Lounge Non-Schengen Cologne/Bonn – Food & Drink

Especially compared to the Schengen lounge at the same airport, the buffet is rather small. The food offered is comparably limited, while the drink selection is reasonable. However. during our visit, the lounge agent was already in the process of cleaning up. The coffee machine was switched off, no warm dsishes were provided any more. During our visit, more and more items were removed, so that there was in fact just an apple and some pudding left already at 20:45, 75 minute before lounge closing. This was absolutely disgusting.

The Lounge Non-Schengen Cologne/Bonn – Services

The lounge was driven by a single person. She was overall friendly. The lounge has WiFi access provided by the airport, which works absolutely fine.

The Lounge Non-Schengen Cologne/Bonn – My View

The atmosphere overlooking the gates is okay, and its location behind passport control adds some comfort to your travel from Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN). That’s all the positive facts I can name about The Lounge in the Non-Schengen area of the airport. Having no food there is absolutely unacceptable. This is terrible service. My stay there was likely the poorest experience I had at a German airport.
