Flyctory.com Cons

  • Valet parking

The last hotel I feature from my Weird Al Yankovic Tour Kick-Off trip in April 2022 is the Hampton Inn & Suites Albany Downtown – just some ten days before I head to Dublin and visit the first of his 2023 European shows. I went for the Hampton due to my loyalty with Hilton as well as the close walking distance to the venue, the very iconic The Egg. Here is my experience with the central hotel in the capital of New York State on the third day of my trip.

Hampton Inn Albany Downtown – Location

The Hampton Inn is indeed in the heart of Albany Downtown. However, most of the key attractions, including The Egg, are a bit South of the hotel, but can be reached easily in walking distance. Albany is a bit of hilly, though. Right next to the hotel there are also several theaters, bars and restaurants.

The hotel is just a short drive away from I-787. The hotel features a huge parking lot in the read of the hotel, which is a bit of weird to find if you don’t know the area. Valet parking is mandatory there at a nightly fee of 18 USD per night. This felt close to scam to me, as the parking lot is really large and does not necessarily require optimized parking. Former Union station would just be a few blocks away, but Amtrak is nowadays operating from Albany-Rensselear from the East side of the Hudson River. Thus, regional public transport is limited around the Hampton Inn.

Hampton Inn Albany Downtown – Room

I had a one-night stay in April 2022. The semi-flex rate (i.e. five day cancellation notice) for a King Room has been 131.82 USD including taxes. Breakfast is always included in Hampton Hotels. The hotel is rather large, I had a rather high floor room, which gave me a nice view of the city (and the parking lot). The room was really nice, coming with the typical, reliable Hampton design. Working for Flyctory.com especially favors the large work desk with sufficient power supply, but the large sofa was really relaxing as well. The hotel room featured a fridge, but no microwave oven.

You might not be overwhelmingly surprised about the bathroom design – it is a Hampton classic, which in this case featured a shower in the bathtub. The room was clean so that I was overall really happy with the my room, which was – in US relations – a good value for money.

Hampton Inn Albany Downtown – Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the breakfast area in the lobby at the Hampton Inn & Suites Albany Downtown. The area is rather large – but so is the hotel. Americans typically don’t take that much time in these breakfast zones, but I could imagine that it may be a bit of crowded in peak times. The presentation and selection of items was nice regarding it is a Hampton Inn. A really nice start of the day, before I had the longest leg of my trip, heading East towards Boston.

Hampton Inn Albany Downtown – Service

The staff in the hotel was really lovely and very friendly. I had no issues with the WiFi, so that I could smoothly work in the hotel.

Hampton Inn Albany Downtown – My View

The stay at the Hampton Inn was a really good one. The location was good – and once I found the entrance to the parking lot, I had a really relaxed and easy stay. Apart from the valet parking thing, which I just don’t get in this place, the only negative thing is… That Ijust had so few hours in Albany. Need to come back and explore the city one day. Definitely a Top Pick! night.
