The British cast of Rock of Ages in the European Union – while the first leg of the DLAP production took Drew Bowley and Sherrie Christian to Berlin, the cast was hired to play in Ostend (Oostende), Belgium, for one week. As I had to work in parallel, I was looking for an accommodation which is close to the Kursaal, where the shows have been held. The Hotel Andromeda has been a straight and easy choice. Here is my hotel review for you.
Hotel Andromeda Ostend – Location
Hotel Andromeda is located in the very heart of Ostend. It is located right at the beach, next to the Kursaal Theater and the casino and close to several bars and the shopping area. Even the tourist information is just a few steps away. I also wanted to introduce you to the beautiful nearby Leopold Park – but my camera got stolen on the way back home from Germany, including these pictures. City center also includes a supermarket.
Regarding traffic, the situation is not too bad. The key public transport stop is Marie-Joséplein, which is less than 200m away. Apart from several bus services, it is also a stop of the Kusttram, the world largest tram / light rail line. If you come by car, you may use the hotel parking or one of the parking garages around. Parking fees are some 20 to 25 EUR per day. Walking distance to Oostend main station is some 15 minutes.
Hotel Andromeda Ostend – Room
I had a three night stay in May 2023, Thursday to Sunday. You were able to cancel the reservation up to 48 hours in advance. The three day rate for a Classic Room (street side, no sea view) was 548 EUR. Even though the room was one of the hotel’s rather basic options, it was really nice. From a hallway, you could head into the bathroom and toilet or straight on to the living / sleeping area. There was sufficient space and I could easily work on the large desk. For the spa facilities, the hotel offers you a bag with towels etc. I also liked to have a Nespresso machine and complimentary water at check-in.
As said, the bathroom and toilet were separate. I loved the bathroom with bathtub and quite a lot of space. They also had amenities, both in large dispensers as well as in smaller sizes. A real painful experience, though, were the posh hangers which look like small men climbing on the tour. You tend to tangle up something there. The separate toilet was fine as well. I however highly prefer to have a sink next to the toilet. The power plug of the coffee machine was damaged.
Hotel Andromeda Ostend – Breakfast
The breakfast was lovely. Hotel Andromeda is offering a wide selection of items. The breakfast room / restaurant also features a lovely view of the beach, so that you really had a perfect start of the day. I also liked the presentation of the items. Great one! In addition, there was a complimentary cake service in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I could not make it to one of them.
Hotel Andromeda Ostend – Spa
The hotel is driving a lovely spa and pool area. The spa is generally adults only, while the pool area has family times and adults only slots. The morning and later afternoon times were open to families during my visit. The pool is really nice and also has lovely features like an artificial waterfall. The spa area is, however, the key reason why I loved this section of the hotel. A whirlpool, a lovely relaxing area, different saunas and steam baths – the Hotel Andromeda got it. If you are looking for a hotel with a nice spa area, this place is worth a look, definitely.
Hotel Andromeda Ostend – Service
Overall, I really liked the service at the Hotel Andromeda. Rather close to my room at the mezzanine floor, the hotel is driving a very nice and functional gym. You also had meeting cabins if you want to work. The hotel is selling a couple of souvenirs of the hotel and the hotel chain (including the climbing men hangers…) at the reception.
While I did like the reception staff, I was not happy with the hotel management. I was working during the stay and thus did not want to have my room serviced. The first morning, I set the status light at the door to DND – and got house keeping. Thus, I went to he reception that I don’t want to have my room cleared, but it did not work at all. This should not happen at a hotel of this kind.
Hotel Andromeda Ostend – My View
The hotel is an a really lovely place. The location is beautiful, the breakfast and the spa lead to a memorable stay. However, I had the service issues with housekeeping and the maintenance issues. The Andromeda would likely even deserve an even better rating, but I have to factor in these two negative points.
