My wife and I went on a trip to Dubrovnik in Croatia in April 2023. As Hilton is generally my preferred hotel brand, we went for one of the nicest places in town, the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik. Here the review of my stay.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik – Location

Undoubtedly, the hotel is coming with an excellent location. The West entrance to Dubrovnik Old Town including access to the lovely city walls is just a few minutes away. There are several restaurants and even a small supermarket close to the hotel, which makes your stay really convenient. You reach the more modern parts of the city by public transport.

The key Old Town attractions, the Dubrovnik Cable car and other touristic sites are in walking distance. You reach other parts of Dubrovnik by bus – there is a bus stop right more or less across the street. Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is quite distant and out of town. The hotel offered an excellent shuttle for the 25 minute ride for 55 EUR. Other arrangements should be slightly cheaper.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik – Atmosphere

The hotel has already been opened in 1897. However, it has been severely damaged by the Croatian Independence War. The hotel is a real beauty and comes with great style and atmosphere. The lobby is very welcoming and also the other parts have a really high standard.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik – Room

We had a three night stay over Easter 2023, Good friday to Easter Monday. The original booking was a King Superior Room, which has been slightly upgraded to a room with balcony. The balance of the stay (breakfast included due to Hilton Diamond status) was 746.10 EUR on a semi-flex stay. The room was really spacious with a classic, but also posh room design. In contrast to the king bed we booked, we had two individual beds, which was fine. Apart from having water in the room, we also enjoyed to have some local sweets as a welcome present.

It is almost needless to say that the room was well maintained. The bathroom was large and had quite a lot of space for your toiletries. Amenities were provided in both, dispensers and small containers (which was maybe more than finally necessary). The bathroom came with a combined bathtub and shower. Another part of the room we really enjoyed was the balcony. There was a “view” to the ventilation system on the right side, but therefor, we had an amazing view of the mountain and parts of Old Town to the other.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik – Breakfast & Food

Breakfast has been served in the major restaurant on terrace level (due to the geography around the hotel, this is one level below ground and reception level). While the buffet as such was lovely and also featured a nice range of items, the setting of tables was a bit of packed and narrow. Dishes like pancakes, waffles and certain egg dishes were made to order. While the waffles and pancakes were lovely, I struggled with the Eggs Benedict. Of course, you could also use the terrace for breakfast. We felt it was a bit too chilly in the morning for that, though (and leaves a longer walking distnace to the buffet).

The ground level also features a bar and cafe area. This place is very nice as well. We had a really good afternoon tea there on one of hour days. Unfortunately, there were some service issues (they forgot our afternoon tea tray, even though they served the tea), but overall, this has been a really nice experience.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik – Executive Lounge

The Executive Lounge is located on ground level. As Hilton Honors Diamond members, we generally have access to it. Despite the room was rather large, it was packed especially around happy hour service. The dishes provided there were nice, the staff was attentive. The alcoholic service during happy hour was really good as well. The lounge itself is really cozy and is in line with the beautiful, traditional style of the whole hotel. Especially after  day of sight-seeing, it has been a nice way to hang out there and relax.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik – Service

The reception staff, the driver, the restaurant people – all of them had in common that the service at the hotel was lovely. We felt very welcome in Dubrovnik and by that in Croatia in general. The hotel is running a nice, large gym as well. One place we absolutely loved has been the beautiful pool area, which also had a sauna. Unfortunately, no shower gel was provided in the showers of that area during our stay (the dispenser available was empty). There is also a small fashion and souvenir store on ground level.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik – My View

Bad luck that there were a few (minor) organisational issues here and there. The Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik is a great stay with a lovely location. It definitely would have the potential to be on the very top end of my rating. Due to the few minor negative points, it stays a definite recommendation – with a still very good rating.
