Watching a Rock of Ages show in Toronto and heading on to a Journey concert at Scotiabank Arena thereafter – I had a pretty cool day in Canada in mid March 2023. For that trip, I opted for one of the Downtown Hilton options, the DoubleTree by Hilton Toronto Downtown. One of the key arguments to opt for the DoubleTree was its good location to both venues and that I could redeem Hilton Honors points for the stay. Here is my review.
DoubleTree Toronto Downtown- Location
The hotel is located in Chestnut St, a rather small street which has a few buildings, including the Ontario Court of Justice. The hotel is a bit more than a kilometer away from Union Station, from where I connected to Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ). Thus, it is not very central, but therefor rather affordable. The area features a couple of restaurants and also some touristic attractions like the Textile Museum of Canada.
The public transport situation around the hotel is good. There is a streetcar station more or less in front of the museum (Dundas St West at Chestnut St, line 505). The St. Patrick metro station is just two blocks away. If you arrive by car, on-site parking is charged with 45 CAD per day.
DoubleTree Toronto Downtown – Room
I booked a King Room in March 2023, from Sunday to Monday. The room has been paid with Hilton Honors points to avoid a charge of roughly 250 CAD plus tax. The room on the eighth floor had a nice size. I did not have too much luggage anyway, but there would have been quite a bit of space for it. The room featured a large work desk, which I also appreciate. On top of that, I could also make use of a fridge and a coffee machine.
The bathroom came with a typical North American combined shower and bathtub. It felt a bit of compact, but featured all things necessary, including a typical range of amenities. In line with the room itself, the bathroom was very clean.
DoubleTree Toronto Downtown – Breakfast
Also compared to other DoubleTree places in North America, breakfast at the DoubleTree Toronto Airport was really nice. They had a rather nice collection and good quality. I also enjoyed the restaurant as such. Some basic condiments are available right at your table.
DoubleTree Toronto Downtown – Service
The check-in and check-out at the DoubleTree worked very smoothly. The hotel runs a nice gym as well as nice indoor pool, which has been very popular during my stay. The hotel WiFi worked out very well, too. Close to the reception, there is also a small shop with snacks and basic meals. Inside the hotel,.there is also an Amazon locker, which might be rather handy, especially for foreign visitors.
DoubleTree Toronto Downtown – My View
The DoubleTree has been a really good stay. I could even do some of the commuting by walking. Main Toronto sights are in a reasonable distance and the services in the hotel were good. I absolutely liked it there.
