After I already took you on a Visitor Tour through Munich Airport (MUC) in a previous post, here is another one about exploring Germany’s second largest airport in a touristic way. The Munich Airport Visitor Park / Besucherpark is located rather at the edge of the premises and offers family recreation as well as some opportunity for plane spotting and information.

Munich Airport (MUC) Visitor Park – Location & Admission

The visitor center is located West of the two terminals of Munich Airport (MUC). You can go to the visitor park by car (see parking below), but I would recommend to use public transport. There is even a dedicated station of the S-Bahn commuter rail, München Besucherpark, which is served by the S1 and S8 lines. Travel time to Munich city center is 40 to 50 minutes. There is also a bus connection. You have to take a footbridge over the motorway and walk along the park from there, which is a some 10 to 15 minute walk. However, there are a couple of information displays and signs, which make it quite fun to walk along there.

The majority of the visitor park is available for free and open all year around. The exhibition space opens daily from 9:00 to 17:00. The mini golf course costs 4.50 EUR for adults and opens in line with the restaurant hours. Each time entering the visitor hill costs 1 Euro (no in and out). There is a limited, but dedicated parking lot for the Visitor Park, P52. The parking fee is 1.50 EUR.

Munich Airport (MUC) Visitor Park – Visitor Center & Historic Planes

The main building in the Munich Airport (MUC) Visitor Park hosts a small exhibition illustrating the airport operations. There are quite a lot of interactions possible. For example, there is a large screen with a map of the airport, which explains the airport’s facilities. Other parts explain luggage operations and the destinations flown from the airport.

Outside the building, there are three historic airplanes. Namely, these are a Super Constellation, a Douglas DC-3 and a Junkers Ju 52. At the time of writing, this section is closed to public de to renovation. It is expected that they will be available to public again, though. There is also a helicopter on the grounds, which is not part of that exhibition.

Munich Airport (MUC) Visitor Park – Visitor Hill

A key reason why many people visit the Visitor Park is the Besucherhügel, which offers a nice view over the airport, especially the Northern runway. Thus, it is also very popular among plane spotters. You pay the admission of 1 EUR each time you cross the gate. Therefor, you can stay up on the hill as long as you want. You need to climb stairs to get up, so that you cannot access it with a wheelchair or a stroller.

Munich Airport (MUC) Visitor Park – Services

Families enjoy the rather large, airport-themed playground next to the visitor center. There is also a mini golf course, which is operating in line with the restaurant opening hours. Due to its terrace, the restaurant is very popular on sunny days. Another great way to spend some money is the souvenir store, which offers quite a nice range of aviation models and memorabilia. The visitor tours of the airport depart from there as well – if you are lucky, you can also buy a ticket for the same day at the souvenir store.

Munich Airport (MUC) Visitor Park – My View

Especially on a sunny day, it is really fun to stay out at the Munich Airport (MUC) Visitor Park. If you are not an aviation nerd and stay away from the gift shop, it is also a very affordable way to spend some hours on a rather low budget. The location of the visitor hill between the two runways is really nice as well and absolutely worth the small admission.
