Sad and touching moments just need to have a good hotel stay for your soul. For the very last leg of my ten concert streak following Weird Al Yankovic on his 2023 European Tour, I went for a rather posh option. The Melia Berlin is more or less next to the venue of the show in the German capital, the Admiralspalast. Here is my hotel review.

Melia Berlin – Location

The Melia Group hotel is coming with a lovely location. It is not just close to the Admiralspalast, but also just a few steps away from Friedrichstraße station, the former main station of East Berlin and border crossing station. The excellent Tränenpalast exhibition is reminding of dark ages. The station offers good travel connections to all over Berlin. Other key sights of Berlin like the Brandenburg Gate are just a short walk away from the hotel.

The train station also offers some nice touristic services like basic restaurants or a supermarket. There are also sufficient other dining options around, from a typical Berlin döner or Currywurst (spicy curry sausage) to other cuisines and posh options. The hotel is next to river Spree – my room had river view.

Melia Berlin – Atmosphere

The hotel has a straight, modern touch. I felt that the routing is sometimes a bit of confusing. For example, the direct route to my room was right through the corner of the tapas bar of the hotel. I liked that the hotel is emphasizing their Spanish heritage much stronger than they do in other Melia hotels I stayed in outside Spain, including the really good stays at the ME Dubai or the INNSIDE Dusseldorf Derendorf.

Melia Berlin – Room

I had a one night stay at the Melia Berlin. The prepaid, non-refundable rate for a river view room, including breakfast, was 140 EUR, for a Sunday to Monday stay. The hotel as such feels very modern, fresh and dynamic – the more it is surprising that the room itself comes with a bit of a traditional touch. I loved the size of the room, though. A nice feature was the large work desk. While there were some power outlets at the desk, the sides of the bed lacked them completely. Furthermore, the complimentary water has been brought rather late, which could have worked out better as well.

I felt that the bathroom was more modern than the living and sleeping area of the room. The bathtub was very nice to have – especially after long weeks of tour-chasing. The bathroom also featured a bidet and really nice amenities in dispensers. The last pictures below feature the view of the room, right over the River Spree, which made me smile as well.

Melia Berlin – Breakfast

I really enjoyed the breakfast in Berlin. The room they use is nice and the Melia Hotel is offering a good variety of items. There are also some Spanish references, which I liked (even though I did not have too many of the items), e.g. churros. Rather as expected for a hotel of this kind, egg dishes are made on demand, which was very nice as well.

On street / reception level, the hotel is operating a tapas bar, which was very popular in the evening (even though I came back rather late from the concert and the next das was a working day),.

Melia Berlin – Service

The staff at the Melia Berlin was very friendly and helpful, the WiFi worked very well. The hotel is driving a nice gym. The same area also features a beautiful spa area including a sauna, which is turned on on demand.

Melia Berlin – My View

Overall,. the Melia Berlin is a really nice place. You would not expect the rather old-fashioned room design – but functionally, the room worked out great. Only the fact that there were no power sockets next to the bed is really negative about the room, breakfast and service (apart from the water bottle) was really nice. last, but not least, the hotel comes with a really good location if you want to explore the city.
