Sometimes, it is just nice to have a short vacation in your own own home town. My wife found a package deal in later 2023, which combined a hotel stay with the Jurassic World exhibition. The hotel in the deal was the Mauritius Komfort Hotel Cologne. There are two Mauritius Hotels in the city, with some difference between them. The Mauritius Hotel & Therme (translates to: Mauritius Hotel & Spa) is the much more well-known one in Cologne – so be aware of that when you read the review or book one of the hotels.

 

Mauritius Komfort Hotel – Location

The hotel is located in the heart of Cologne. There are numerous bars and restaurants around. The main shopping area is also nearby. From the hotel, you easily reach key Cologne attractions by different means of transport.

The traffic situation is ideal. The Heumarkt is just a few steps away and is like the gate to Cologne’s old town. Furthermore, it is served by numerous tram and bus lines, including a two stop trip (by line 5) to Cologne Main Station. The hotel is also having its own parking garage. At the time of writing, the price per night is 22 EUR. The street, at which the hotel is located (An der Malzmühle, later Mühlenbach) is a rather busy street and also a typical route for party people. The hotel room came with a great insulation, but it is too loud to open the windows overnight.

 

Mauritius Komfort Hotel – Room

As the hotel was part of a package, I have no separate price for the Saturday to Sunday stay in August 2023. A typical early booking should be about 120 EUR to 140 EUR per night. The room was compact, but felt well serviced and well maintained. A bit of unusually, the room comes in a rather (artificial) leather design. It did have a comparably modern touch, though. In relation to the size of the room, the work desk had a reasonable size. The items in the minibar were available for a fee. However, you have to praise the hotel that the prices for that wee very reasonable.

The bathroom was clean and well-maintained as well. However, it was really compact, especially around the toilet. There is little space to store amenities on the space in front of the large mirror. The Mauritius Komfort Hotel provides soap and shower gel in dispensers.

 

Mauritius Komfort Hotel – Breakfast

The breakfast room next to the reception is quite neat. The breakfast buffet is compact, but especially in regards of the cold items, they did have quite a reasonable selection, including smoked salmon. The hotel is rather aiming for budget-friendly travelers, so that their morning performance was definitely within expectations.

 

Mauritius Komfort Hotel – Service

Overall, the staff at the hotel was friendly. As the hotel is a sister hotel to the four star Mauritius Hotel and Therme hotel, you may use the spa area of that hotel. The upgrade is 10 EUR per day (check-out day possible). The sauna and spa area there is lovely. You have to state, though, that spa hotel is a some 1.5km / 15 to 20 minutes walk away. During our stay, we did have some issues with the WiFi. Each guest received one WiFi voucher. These were limited to one device. If you tried to use another device, you kicked out the first one. This felt a bit too outdated in my point of view. The hotel does not feature air conditioning.

 

Mauritius Komfort Hotel – My View

The Mauritius Komfort Hotel in the Old Town District of Cologne is a really solid option for a budget-friendly city trip. The option to use the spa of the sister hotel for a really small price turns it into a special hotel. The WiFi voucher handling felt to be a bit too picky to me nowadays, though.
