Being on a five-day seminar in Lünen North of Dortmund lead to a comparably long stay at the Hampton by Hilton Dortmund Phoenix See. The hotel is one of the rather new Hampton hotels which Hilton is rolling out all over Europe. Here is a review of my experience of the hotel in the Ruhrgebiet region, based on a visit in July 2023.
Hampton Dortmund Phoenix See – Location
The hotel is located in the borough of Hörde. The location is actually quite nice, as the recreational Phoenixsee (“Phoenix Lake”) is just a few steps away from the hotel and allows having a bite at the near restaurants or just a stroll along its shore. There are also other key services around the hotel, including a major Rewe supermarket and other businesses like a major electronics store. There is a banking academy next to the hotel. The beautiful Hörder Burg (Castle Hörde) is just next to the hotel.
I used my car to get to the hotel. The hotel has limited parking capacities in a very close parking garage. I was a bit confused that other guests were obviously given to park on the street in front of the hotel. Parking fee in the garage was 15 EUR per night during my stay. The road situation is also very good, so that you can easily get to locations around from the hotel. However, there are also quite good public transport options. The bus stop Hörder Burg is almost in front of the hotel and connects to the Hörde commuter rail station, which is also in walking distance as well as to Dortmund Main Station. Hörde Train station is served by three regional train lines as well as four underground lines, so that you can easily get around from there.
Hampton Dortmund Phoenix See – Room
I booked a five night stay at a Queen Room for 505.52 EUR at a flexible rate, including taxes. My Hilton Honors Diamond status lead to a room with a view upgrade, which was actually really nice as the patio of the hotel with a castle opposite is really a beautiful atmosphere. The room was rather large. In general I love the vast availability of power outlets and the large work desk in the new Hampton room design – that’s the key things I need. There is no fridge or microwave oven, but a water kettle, which is very helpful. I would have loved to have a suitcase rack in the room. The bed was very comfy as well.
The shower bathroom was spacious and worked out well for me. The toilet paper holder was not that easy to reach for me, but doable. Amenities are provided by dispensers. The current Hampton policies don’t grant you automatic housekeeping for the duration of your stay. You can simply request it, though, or ask for some replacement items. I was very fine with that, as I still had my sports photography equipment with me after reporting from the German Athletics Nationals 2023 beforehand. At check-in, the room was really clean and fine, I absolutely enjoyed it.
Hampton Dortmund Phoenix See – Breakfast
Breakfast is complimentary at Hampton hotels. The Hilton franchise in Dortmund had some technical issues. On the first morning, there was no waffle machine (funnily, the still had the toppings), on other days they struggled with the juice dispensers. Apart from that, the service was really good. There was a nice range of items available. Despite being there five days, I rarely explored refilling issues or similar at the Hampton by Hilton Dortmund Phoenix Sea. I absolutely enjoyed their breakfast service.
Hampton Dortmund Phoenix See – Service
Overall, the service was very welcoming and friendly. WiFi worked out well, too. The hotel drives a nice hotel gym right behind the lobby, close to the elevators. Thus, there were no issues in regards of service during my stay.
Hampton Dortmund Phoenix See – My View
I had a really nice stay at the Hampton by Hilton. However, there is a lack of parking capacity (some garages around might be able to compensate, though) and the technical issues at breakast were not ideal as well. Nonetheless, I had a really good time at the hotel, which is located beautifully. Dortmund’s Hilton outlet easily makes it into the Top Pick! rating range.
