New regional carrier: since mid-2021, Bolzano Airport (BZO) is operating scheduled flights with their own carrier, SkyAlps. For an early flight in early August 2021, I needed a stay close to the airport and finally opted for the closest option, Hotel Restaurant Lewald (who, by that coincidence of the airport upgrade can now name themselves being an airport hotel). Here are my thoughts about the stay in South Tyrol, Italy.

Hotel Lewald – Location
Hotel Lewald is located in the Southern part of Bolzano. The airport is in walking distance and the train fair is not too far away. If you arrive by car, the hotel is not too far from the Brenner Motorway. There is a bus station not too far away for public transport, the taxi from main station was about ten Euro. The nearest regional rail station is the Bolzano Trade Fair One.
The touristic facilities in close proximity of the hotel are available, but limited. There are some more hotels in the area, as well as bars and restaurants. Right in front of the hotel is a military cemetery.
Hotel Lewald – Atmosphere
As you see on the pictures on the top, the hotel already looks very welcoming with local architecture style from outside. The rooms and facilities are split into two buildings with a lovely patio, which is a great place to relax.

Hotel Lewald – The Room
In late July 2021, I booked the suite with balcony for one night. The rate was flexible and included breakfast for one person, for a rate of 126.44 EUR. The room was really nice. The living area with the sofa and the reasonable work desk felt really welcoming. The sleeping room had a nice size as well and featured the TV set. The interior design had a classic local line, without being too present, so that it could feel disturbing. This room also featured a place to put your suitcase on. All room windows had proper shutters, in case you have a light-sensitive sleep.

The shower bathroom was ensuite to the sleeping room. A bit of an old fashioned design, but at least with all necessary facilities, even a bidet. Basic amenities were provided in dispensers at the wall, including in the shower. What I, however, most liked about the suite was the balcony. You simply had a nice and relaxing view from there. Despite the frequently used road just in front, it has been not too noisy.

Hotel Lewald – Breakfast
The hotel arranged breakfast in a buffet room with separate table / sitting rooms. There was a nice variety of items of all kind, so that the morning performance has been overall very nice. Especially the selection of pastries and sweet treats as well as juices felt really good. The hotel is typically running a restaurant as well. During the pandemic situation, however, it has not been available.

Hotel Lewald – Service
The staff was really nice and welcoming. Unfortunately, there were some major WiFi issues during my star after slightly stormy weather. The mobile swimming pool has been available to guests all day, as well. As most guests arrive by car, the hotel rungs a large garage.

Hotel Lewald – My View
I have been really happy about choosing the (likely) right option for a night close to Bolzano Airport. The hotel is really eye-catching at first view and continues to be a really nice place. Unfortunately, there were the internet issues, which just has to lead to reduction in the final rating.
