After I covered the Muxx.tv show by Jessica Lynn in Erftstadt, I felt that I should also just visit one of her concerts 2024 in Germany as an ordinary visitor. My show of choice was the Thursday evening one at the Musikhof in Wolfsburg. For the overnight, I opted for the Premier Inn Wolfsburg City Centre. Apart from the price, there were two reasons for that. First of all, the hotel is rather close to the venue. Secondly, it was the first time I could go for one of Premier Inn’s Plus Rooms – an experience I did not have before. Let’s see what my experience looked alike.
Premier Inn Wolfsburg City Centre – Location
With its location East of the major Wolfsburg outlet mall and behind a major bridge, you could argue whether this Premier Inn hotel is indeed located in the city center of Wolfsburg or not. Walking distance from the main station is some ten to fifteen minutes, along the rail tracks. The hotel itself is located in a very commercial and industrial are. To have a bite at a restaurant or grab some food at a grocery store, you have to walk to the (in-fact) city center around the station.
Public transport is limited at that location. You may shorten your walk by having one or two bus stops from the main station is East direction, though. Most of the people likely either walk from the train station or get there by car. The hotel drives an open air parking space as well as a garage. Open air parking is 17 Euro daily, which I felt being rather aggressive. The reception is on the first floor (the one above ground floor), so that if you don’t come from the parking garage, you also have to change elevators to get to the room levels.
Premier Inn Wolfsburg City Centre – Room
As said, I went for one of the Premier Plus rooms at the Premier Inn Wolfsburg City Centre. The flexible rate for that was 91.90 EUR, including breakfast (75 EUR of that was the room rate). The room on the top floor did not feel like having too much additional space, but featured some amenities which you typically would not expect at that branch. For example, there was a fridge, which was stocked up with two complimentary bottles of water. Unfortunately, there was not too much more space in it. You also had some top-ups in that room category like an ironing board and iron. Overall, the room was rather nice, the work desk had a good size and there was a sufficient number of power outlets around. I like the newer Premier Inn room design generally. Apart from being on the top floor and the amenities listed, there was, however, not too much benefit from the upgraded room category.
The bathroom with shower was nice as well and got its job done. Not sure whether this was due to the room category, but my room featured three different flavors of shower gel (which also works as shampoo), which I never had before at any stay, even in luxury hotels. Housekeeping was absolutely fine, the room was clean so that I overall really enjoyed the room. You should be aware that mobile network in the area is rather weak. I was quite surprised by that, as there are a bunch of major companies, a couple of them obviously somehow linked to Volkswagen, are in that are.
Premier Inn Wolfsburg City Centre – Breakfast
Breakfast at the newer Premier Inn hotels in Germany is quite impressive, especially compared to the British sister hotels. The Premier Inn Wolfsburg City Center is not exception to that. The presentation of the items is really nice, the variety is very good. I also liked the quality of the food. The breakfast area was rather busy during my stay, but overall, everything felt relaxed. I really liked the start of my day before I headed back home.
Premier Inn Wolfsburg City Centre – Service
The check-in procedure was quite bumpy. First of all, the receptionist needed quite a while to find my reservation, later she did not tell me the breakfast times. At least, there was a poster on the wall. When I set up my computers, I found out that the ultimate WiFi code they gave me did not work. There is no phone number in the room to call the reception. Thus, I had to get down again and it overall took over 20 minutes to receive a code which is actually working – lousy! The ultimate performance is by the way roughly a 16 mBit connection, up and down – not too bad, but other places are more ultimate with free WiFi. There is no gym, pool or similar facility.
Premier Inn Wolfsburg City Centre – My View
There were two downsides during my stay. I could have understood better that the location is not ideal, at least if you don’t come by car. The city center of Wolfsburg is rather condensed, you already feel being outside the city. The parking fees are simply too high. The issues with the WiFi felt very bothering, the receptionists did not feel too trained as well. Apart from that, it was a nice stay. The value of the Plus Room is questionable, though.
