Despite I reduced my travel volume significantly due to health limitations, I still had some quite interesting flights during the last weeks. This episode is dominated by Lufthansa Group flights. However, there are also a few other services. Hope you enjoy my 31st edition of my recent inflight meal and service experience.
23rd April 2026, Lufthansa LH 2031, Dusseldorf (DUS) – Munich (MUC), Economy Class
The first flight on my list was – as expected – a less spectacular one. Flying at 6:20 in Economy Class is rather about getting some sleep and relax. The A321 was not that full, Lufthansa offered a water service and a small piece of chocolate – that’s absolutely fine for the roughly one hour service. Weird situation at Dusseldorf Airport (DUS) before: with the entire Netherlands being on holiday the following week, the airport was full of yellow license plate cars – and even the expansive parking garages right at the terminal were full. I never had that situation before, even not in summer season.

23rd April 2026, Eurowings EW 9089, Munich (MUC) – Dusseldorf (DUS), Smart / Economy Class
I rather expected even less on the return flight from a business event the same day. Eurowings does not offer any complimentary service in their economy class. Thus, I had dinner at the Lufthansa Lounge before. The crew was accurate. Nothing to much, nothing to complain – and I cannot blame them that I have been really tired.
24th April 2026, Lufthansa LH 2031, Dusseldorf (DUS) – Munich (MUC), Business Class
There are rare occasions in my life where I had exactly the same flight two days in a row. Back to Munich (MUC) again, this time in order to head to the Swedish Floorball Finals in Stockholm – and, as I had my camera stuff with me, in the front of the cabin. I really liked the breakfast platter. Interestingly, one of the flight attendants wanted to another round of bread rolls and croissants, but the purser refused to do so. Especially, the yoghurt creme with fruit and granola was amazing. A nice way to start a travel day, completely without egg dishes. I really liked it and the friendly and effective crew. I unfortunately missed taking a picture of the meal.
24th April 2026, Lufthansa LH 2414, Munich (MUC) – Stockholm (ARN), Business Class
For the flight to Stockholm, there was another breakfast service. This time, you could choose between two cold cut platters. One was a traditional one with poultry roast and salami. I went for the vegetarian option, which came with a wider range of cheese and fig mustard. In addition, there were multiple bread and drink rounds. The crew was really friendly, so that I did not only enjoy the meal, but the service.

After breakfast, the crew had a nice sweet surprise. The flight took place a week after Lufthansa’s 100th anniversary celebrations. The crew offered a slice of anniversary tart, which was a chocolate one. I could not refuse. A rich, but nice surprise, in addition to the chocolate you get after the meal anyway.

26th April 2026, Lufthansa LH 805, Stockholm (ARN) – Frankfurt (FRA), Business Class
I did not feel that weel when flying back from Stockholm on Sunday evening. Nonetheless, I really liked the dish served. The chicken felt a bit like a poke bowl, served with bread and a couple of drink refills. The berry cake as a dessert was a nice treat as well. However, I was really happy that I had pasta at the American Express Lounge at Stockholm Airport (ARN) before – regarding the flight is a two hour service in the evening hours, it felt a bit too thin. Unfortunately, no cake this time – I would have loved to celebrate the Lufthansa anniversary again.

26th April 2026, Lufthansa LH 78, Frankfurt (FRA) – Dusseldorf (DUS), Business Class
These Frankfurt (FRA) to Dusseldorf (DUS) flights are really short ones, so I am glad – and sometimes amazed – how well the crews are handling them. I had some 90 minutes transfer time but unfortunately had a B Gate departure, which meant no lounge in the Schengen area. The food this time was actually more than I expected, two turkey salami sandwiches and another cake. Maybe Lufthansa should ask Icelandair about a really good vanilla sauce onboard – but apart from that, I was more than pleased with this stomach filler.

16th May 2026, Lufthansa LH 79, Dusseldorf (DUS) – Frankfurt (FRA), Business Class
Three flights to Torshavn – I was really looking forward to be back in the Nordics for the Handball World Cup Qualification match vs. Bosnia. The first leg was the short hop from Dusseldorf (DUS) to Frankfurt (FRA). Lufthansa served the typical breakfast basket, a yogurt with cereals, a cereal bar and an apple. Not too bad for the short trip – and the crew was really nice as well. Fun fact: the flight had bus boarding in Dusseldorf – something you have really rarely on this early morning service.

16th May 2026, Lufthansa LH 824, Frankfurt (FRA) – Copenhagen (CPH), Business Class
With about one hour flight time, the second leg of the day was slightly longer. And the service had some more options. A cold cut platter with bread rolls, croissants, and preserve was the main part. Additionally, there was a yoghurt creme with peach, which was absolutely delicious. After I struggled a bit with the ground service and check-in, the crew was absolutely nice as well. A good experience with Lufthansa.

16th May 2026, Atlantic Airways RC 453, Copenhagen (CPH) – Vagar / Faroe Islands (FAE), Economy
The Lufthansa business class ticket allowed me to fly with hand luggage only. Thus the transfer to the next gate in Copenhagen (CPH) was very relaxed. Luckily, I was allowed to take my trolley suitcase and the camera backpack into the cabin. For that flight, I had pre-booked the open-face sandwich. A really delicious option and one of my favorite onboard bites. I also like the hospitality at all-economy Atlantic Airways, even though everything but coffee, tea, and water is for sale only. Nonetheless, another nice experience with the Faroese airline – and just a couple of minutes after landing, I had already grabbed my rental car.

17th May 2026, Atlantic Airways RC 470, Vagar / Faroe Islands (FAE) – Billund (BLL), Economy
The way back to Germany had a rather long layover in Billund (BLL). Thus, my Atlantic Airways flight was rather early on Sunday morning and I just had left breakfast buffet at Hotel Djurhuus in Torshavn. Nonetheless, I felt a bit of thirsty and hungry, so that I went for a Twix, some almonds and a Pepsi Max, which summed up to 60 DKK, roughly 8 EUR. The crew was nice and friendly, even though they felt a bit of tired. A weird fact of the flight was that they kept the cockpit door open while one of the pilots had a visit at the lavatory. You typically don’t see that nowadays.

17th May 2026, Lufthansa LH 841, Billund (BLL) – Frankfurt (FRA), Business Class
After a five hour layover in Denmark, it was time heading back to Germany. The slightly more than one hour flight featured a cold meal. The main was a kohlrabi salad with summer truffles, pine nut and red radish. The dish was not that filling, but absolutely delicious. The crew was very nice as well, so that the flight was definitely a positive experience. By the way, despite the flight having 174 passengers, it only had 66 pieces of checked luggage – all the light and basic fares are quite a burden for the cabin crew, who managed to push all the hand luggage into the bins and drawers. The dessert was a lemon tartlet. Not too bad as well, I really liked that flight.

17th May 2026, Lufthansa LH 78, Frankfurt (FRA) – Dusseldorf (DUS), Business Class
The A319 was almost full on the Sunday evening service, including eight or nine rows of business class. Thus, you just have to praise the crew delivering a very friendly and efficient service. I was quite surprised about the meal, a vegetarian wrap with cheese, red beets and quite many other fillings. It was absolutely delicious and was even accompanied by a chocolate cake dessert. Really great performance and lovely food – thumbs up for the Germans!

30th May 2026, Lufthansa LH 79, Dusseldorf (DUS) – Frankfurt (FRA), Economy Class
Time for my first of three planned trips to the USA for the Weird Al Yankovic Tour 2026. The short first leg was nothing too special. The economy service did not even have water this time, just a small chocolate bar. All fine – apart from arriving at my less beloved B Gates in Frankfurt (FRA), so that I had to take the passenger tunnel for my next flight.
30th May 2026, Lufthansa LH 408, Frankfurt (FRA) – Raileigh-Durham (RDU), Business Class
My original plan was flying Premium Economy forth and back. However, due to my health situation, I felt that Business Class is the much wiser option and went for some upgrades. The A330 to Raileigh-Durham (RDU) is not Lufthansa’s nicest cabin. However, much worse were significant delays on the ground – non-EU citizens had severe issues with the new border control system. Some of them even missed the flight.

The crew was overall very friendly. Almonds in a small bag were given on the ground, after the welcome drink. We had to bypass some thunderstorms in Northwest Germany, but quite soon after the Fasten Seatbelt signs were off, a first drink and an amuse bouche – buttermilk mousse with caponata and parsley oil – was served. Quite a bit after that, the flight attendant asked for my meal choice. The starter was argula cream cheese with tomato (not sure whether it was meant to be eaten with bread?) and a truffled artichoke cream with avocado and tomato. Does not sound like my favorite, but it was really nice. You feel that German TV and star-rated chef Johan Lafer is working on improving their meals. Additionally, you could choose between smashed potatoes (very popular among US people), smoked trout or vitello tonnato. The latter is one of my favorites, so I had to go for it. The star of the starters, however, was a small bread loaf (one of many bread options), which was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, the meal service was lame and poorly organized. I sat in a middle seat (2-2-2 configuration) – and my neighbor was done for minutes before I got my meal at all.

Entree and Pre-Landing Snack
There were three mains to choose from. As a German, I just had to go for the (white) asparagus with potatoes, Hollandaise Sauce and a veal filet. The latter was very hard to cut with the (as usual) not too sharp knife provided. Additionally, it was definitely over-cooked. Alternatives would have been a Salmon Teriyaki with vegetables and rice or an eggplant curry. It was already two hours after take-off at that time – this service definitely went wrong. The dessert was very quick, though. I am more and more of a cheese plate guy. The cheese was good, the crackers not suitable and fig jam or similar was likely too expansive to add. Alternatives were a strawberry basil tartlet (which the flight attendant called chocolate mousse – did he ever read the menu?) or fresh fruit.

The next bad surprise was right after the table was finally cleaned. Lufthansa nowadays offers Sky Selection, small snack dishes as an additional meal which you can order anytime after meal service and an hour before landing. However, right after meal service, everyone was asked whether having that service 90 minutes before landing would be fine. There were a couple of options (poke bowl, tapas platter, falafel wrap, curry sausage), which all somehow sound like the buy-on-board stuff of their low-cost airline Eurowings. I just had to go for the Currywurst / curry sausage, which was really, really nice. There was also a small dessert with a macaron, another small pastry and a bit of fruit. However, while the main meal starter had a small bowl which had no use at all, this dish came with butter, but without bread. The crew confirmed that no bread is planned for it. The new Lufthansa cabin service concept has potential, but is not fully working yet.

By the way, right after meal service, the flight attendant asked the passengers to close all the blonds. I just don’t get it for a flight, which was scheduled to depart at 10:20 local time and arrives at about 13:45 at its destination.

6th June 2026, Lufthansa LH 409, Raileigh-Durham (RDU) – Frankfurt (FRA), Business Class
Four concerts later, I headed back to Germany. Like on the outbound legs, I had a transatlantic business class service and a national connection in economy. I felt that the crew was more attentive and friendly than on the service to Raleigh-Durham (RDU). I also liked the food selection. Again, the service started with cashews and almonds (this time, on the ground), the first drink service came with an amuse bouche, a salad of yuzu, edamame, sesame and ginger. As the starter, there were again two fixed dishes. The cauliflower miso dip matched nicely with the German-style bread I had to it. The other starter was heirloom tomato and cucumber tartare, which was nice. As the major dish, I went for the vegetarian sweet potato with harissa cream cheese, asparagus and artichoke. Alternatives would have been shrimp cocktail with a relish or beef tenderloin (cold) with horseradish cream.

Again, there were three options for the main course. Two options were a braised lamb shoulder or a vegetable carrot terrine. I went for the bouillabaisse. However, it was not the famous French fish soup, but a selection of different seafood with a spicy sauce and Yukon potato. I absolutely loved that one, even though I expected a soup-alike dish. The cheese at the end of the mail was definitely nicer than on the outbound. I still missed fig preserve, though. At least the crackers were much better.

Breakfast
You could opt whether you want to have breakfast and whether the crew wakes you up for it or not. There were various drink and meal options, which you could mark on a list handed out before take off. I went for the yogurt with granola and a pretzel bread. On top of that, there was some fruit, leading to a good start of the day. Before landing, you also got the box of Lufthansa / Lindt chocolates.

7th June 2026, Lufthansa LH 72, Frankfurt (FRA) – Dusseldorf (DUS), Economy Class
There was just a small chocolate service in economy class on the short flight. I had a bit of a discussion. After seating, I told a crew member that I need a seat belt extension. She forgot about it, but another crew member, who did two cabin checks failed to see that I was still obviously not buckled up. While taxiing to the runway, I used the call button that I still need a seatbelt extension. He tried to turn it in a way that it was my fault. No sir, you did not do a proper cabin check! Later the female flight attendant, who I called out before, excused at me, which I felt was a fine move. Still, these things must not happen in my point of view.
