Arriving late from my Lübeck Air flight from Lübeck Airport (LBC), heading out early for my train to Bolzano in Italy – for my late July 2021 trip, I definitely needed an overnight, which is located as close as possible to Munich Main Station as possible. I took the closest option – as IntercityHotel Munich is in fact located right at the station’s building. Here are my thoughts about the place, which is interestingly driven by Fleming’s Hotels (see my review of the Fleming’s Express in Frankfurt).

Rather surprisingly, I found out that the hotel is closed nowadays.

IntercityHotel Munich – Location

Describing the location is really easy: it is right on the Southern exit of Munich Main Station. It looks like that there has even been a direct link to the main hall of the rail travel hub in the past – nowadays, you have to walk a few meters in open space to exit the station and enter the museum.

Munich Main Station offers a lot of facilities for the tourist. However, it is very centrally located and within a few hundred meters, you are in the heart of Munich’s city center. Apart from the long-distance and regional trains offered by the rail station, there are local commuter trains, trams and bus services around the hotel, all in short walking distance.

IntercityHotel Munich – The Room

I booked a standard room in late July 2021, Friday to Saturday. The rate was refundable for up to three days and included breakfast. The room rate was 77.35 EUR. The room was rather simple, but spacious enough to hold my luggage. Apart from the thin cushion, the bed was good as well and there were sufficient power outlets and a work desk – that’s all I needed. The fixed work desk is not too charming for my body volume, unfortunately. What I felt to be really unfortunate is that the water kettle facility was practically covering the whole desk next to the bed – so I had to put it somewhere to free the space. The view from the room was right to the street in front of Munich Main Station, the Bayerstraße. Nonetheless, the room was really quiet.

The bathroom was compact, but clean and served all my needs. Thus, I cannot report about big thrills in the sanitary wonderland, but overall, it was absolutely fine.

IntercityHotel Munich – Breakfast

My train to Bolzano left at 7:34 hrs, while breakfast on Saturdays is served from 7:00 hrs onwards. Thus, I just had a quick bite and could not take too many pictures. I felt very stressed as they made strict controls to enter the breakfast area – but when I arrived the beautiful restaurant, the staff was very busy – by giving free coffee to a friend and filling it into a insulated mug. This took some five minutes or even a bit more. The selection and quality of the food was really good, though – coming with very good hygienic measures.

IntercityHotel Munich – Service

I really liked the friendly service in the hotel. I just struggled a bit that they did the whole processing with my luggage (i.e. tagging it, putting it into the luggage room, …) when I clearly stated I will just be away for a quick breakfast for 15 minutes. WiFi in the hotel worked well.

IntercityHotel Munich – My View

I needed short routes, a place to work, good WiFi and (ideally) a nice bite before going to the train to Italy. That was the scope for my stay, the IntercityHotel served them all. I struggle a bit with the attitude of the staff at breakfast (people might go to breakfast very early in a hotel next to the main station, don’t they?), but overall, the hotel gave me a good service.
