As my flight to Barra, which gave my a great day on the Outer Hebrides island, departed (and arrived) in Glasgow, I again had two nights in the Scottish city, which is already quite familiar to me. This time I decided to check out a German budget hotel brand, which also starts to have some outlets in other countries: Motel One is offering reliable, affordable – and stylish – acomodation in several places in my home country already. I was very curious about how my stay would be.
Motel One Glasgow was my Favorite Value For Money Hotel Stay in 2019.
Motel One – Location
The Motel One in Glasgow is as close as possible to local traffic: the main traffic station is just across the street. If you leave the hotel to your right, you pass the tunnel underneath the tracks.Glasgow is generally a very safe place.
The nice location implies that there are a lot of services around. Shopping, a lot of bars and restaurants, the subway and a lot of sights are around. For most activities, it is to me about the best locations you can have in the city. The express bus to Glasgow Airport is departing some five minutes away.
Motel One – Rooms
My two night stay in a Queen bed room on a September weekend was 157 GBP, breakfast included. The room is compact, it could become tricky if you travel with a lot of luggage. There is no workdesk in the room and the location of the powerplugs was not ideal for working on the table in the room. On the positive side, I did love the design – there was even a European power plug close to the bed. The TV set was very good as well and next to the bed on one side, there was even quite a large safe.
The bathroom concept is similar to the room. There were no small amenities, but soap and shower gel in large spenders. I loved the quality of both of them. Everything was clean, there was some space for your bathroom stuff, so the bathroom with shower was absolutely fine.
Motel One – Breakfast / Food
The breakfast area of the Glasgow Motel One is very limited. However, you can sit around in the lovely lobby as well, so that you will find a seat. There is a nice selection of continental breakfast. There are no hot items, though. During my stay, there were some sports teams in the hotel, which naturally slows down the processes a bit. However, items were refilled very quickly.
The lobby also features a bar opposite the reception, which was a very popular place in the evening. Overall, the lobby area is really beautiful.
Motel One – Service
The Motel One concept does not contain services like a gym. However, they offer you services like a luggage storage. The staff was fantastic, really motivated and friendly. You felt an amazing identification with their brand. Unfortunately, I had massive problems with the WiFI connection in the hotel, so that I finally had to move to tethering (internet by mobile phone). The staff was really trying to help. Unfortunately, I could not remove the problem, which did not occur in other stays or at other places.

Motel One – My View
Motel One is definitely a very good place. The staff is amazing, the people are great. I did miss a workdesk, though, and the internet problems took me a lot of time and effort. Thus, I cannot assign the full rating to the place. For most city traveler needs, though, you will have a great time selecting this place for your Glasgow stay.
