Following the Weird Al Yankovic European Tour 2023, one of the highlights was definitely the concert in Tilburg in the Netherlands. First of all, the concert at the Poppodium 013 was a highlight in regards of the crowds. But, of course, it was special to me as I was able to cover a Weird Al show in full Flyctory.com style. A fun fact of this Saturday in February 2023 was that I ran into the Tilburg Carnival. On the hotel side, I went for an Accor Hotels selection and had one night at the Mercure Hotel Tilburg. Here is my review

Mercure Tilburg – Location

The museum is located right at the Heuvel Square in the heart of Tilburg. Thus, the hotel was not only right in the heart of the shopping and recreational area of Tilburg, but also in the heart of carnival celebrations. The walking distance to Tilburg station is about ten minutes. There is a public parking garage Heuvelpoort in the rear of the hotel. The access was blocked due to the carnival celebrations, but that is just a temporary thing. The walking distance to the concert venue was less than five minutes.

Due to its excellent locations, all necessary services are located around the hotel. There are restaurants, supermarkets and stores around. The most important attraction of the city is the Safari Park Beekse Bergen. It is located South of the city and thus not central. Another key attraction of the area is Efteling, an amusement park which is located North of Tilburg.

Mercure Tilburg – Room

I had a one night stay at a Privilege Room from Sunday to Monday at the Mercure Hotel Tilburg Centrum. I stayed at a non-public rate with breakfast. The public price at my time of booking was over 200 EUR, caused by the fact that there was carnival parades were in the city. The size of the room was breathtaking, it was in fact almost a suite. The hallway featured a large workdesk and a coffe/tea maker. The couch and additional seats were located in the large sleeping room. Definitely, a very spacious room design. The hotel named that the room was a downgrade (no prestige room), I don’t know how this could be better.

Compared to that large size room, the bathroom felt compact. But it absolutely got the job done and hasn’t been compact in any way. Amenities were provided in dispensers.Like the whole room, it was absolutely clean.

Mercure Tilburg – Breakfast

The restaurant next to the lobby was very popular – and the breakfast there definitely gave some good reasons for that. Mercure Tilburg offered a nice range of warm, healthy and delicious items. The presentation and the staff was really nice, so that overall, the hotel exceeded my expectations in regards of the first meal of the day.

Mercure Tilburg – Service

WiFi in the hotel was nice. As I came from Weird Al’s previous tour stage in Brussels, I was quite ahead of check-in time and was very happy that I could work for the website in the lobby. However, even though I was present, the room was not even ready at check-in time (15:00). It took significantly longer to get into the room. You could feel that the hotel staff felt very ashamed of that and also gave me a significant discount on the room rate, which I felt was a very pleasant and appropriate reaction.

The hotel does not run an own gym, but is contracted to a gym very next door. I did not check that out, also due to the carnival situation.

Mercure Tilburg – My View

Bad luck that there was so much organizational trouble. The hotel would have deserved a better rating, definitely, they did so good in many disciplines. But a review is a snapshot – and some parts of that were not acceptable. I definitely appreciate the very professional reaction of the staff.
