There are just a few hotel stay reviews left which I haven’t covered on Flyctory.com yet after overnights became practically impossible all over Europe. One of the last stays remaining is a very interesting hotel in central Rotterdam: the Hilton Hotel there is a quite traditional place and an established option among business travelers. I stayed there in fall 2020, just when pandemic measures were also increasing in the Netherlands. Here is my review.

Hilton Rotterdam – Location

The Hilton Rotterdam is located right at the Hofplein square, which is a very good travel hub. The metro stop is more or less next to the hotel – it even connects you to The Hague / Den Haag. There are also multiple tram lines (some of them were blocked due to roadworks during our visit. Rotterdam Centraal, the central station of Rotterdam is some 600 meters away fromthe hotel and the shopping area is just a short walk – so the hotel is really nicely located.

Needless to say that the area features some more hotels (there is, for example, a Holiday Inn Express right across the road. The hotel is contracted with a nearby parking garage, which you access through the Kruiskade road. Parking is 30 Euro per night. Typically, the hotel also offers valet services, but these have not been available due to Covid-19. You will have a lot of bars and restaurants around as well. An Albert Heijn supermarket is located right behind the hotel as well.

Hilton Rotterdam – Rooms

I had booked a King Deluxe High Floor Room for 123.97 Euro. My Hilton Honors Diamond membership guaranteed free breakfast for me and my wife. The rate was a flexible one, we got a nice upgrade to a junior suite alike room. The room was an absolute beauty. It felt classic, but the curvy design and the furniture also gave it a very modern touch. There was much more space than you in fact need for a city trip. I also liked the large work desk, which also featured British power plugs. While we struggled a bit at arrival, as the Hilton feels a bit old-fashioned from the outside, the room was really lovely.

As the Executive Lounge could not operate during our visit, we were given numerous snacks and two small bottles of wine, which have been put into the fridge / mini bar. Lovely replacement. The room also featured a Nespresso machine. The wide bed was very cozy as well.

The bathroom with separate bathtub completed the good impression the room had on us. All necessary amenities were available. Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures which reflect that the upper floor room gave a quite decent view of the city as well.

Hilton Rotterdam – Breakfast

Due to Covid-19, the breakfast had been arranged in time slots. There was one breakfast shift per hour, with 45 minute dining time and a 15 minute break to clean up the tables. While this is doable to me, it has been rather stressful for my wife. Instead of their ordinary breakfast buffet, you could choose from two options of their breakfast menu (plus drinks etc., of course). It was a reasonable start of the day in the lovely hotel restaurant – but I guess they are much better there when you have the normal buffet service.

Hilton Rotterdam – Services

The staff in the hotel was really nice. The reception staff at check-in and check-out was very welcoming and helpful and also introduced us with the necessary information (e.g. about current pandemic hygienic measures). The WiFi in the hotel worked very well, as expected.

The hotel also operates a gym. I unfortunately could not find it – it felt to me as if the signposting somehow stopped in the lobby area.

Hilton Rotterdam – My View

Overall, staying at the Hilton Rotterdam was a really nice experience. The hotel is nicely renovated, the room was great and the staff has been really nice as well. The location is of course a great one and gives you a bunch of nice connections to other spots in the Rotterdam / The Hague region. Parking fees are high, but this is about the average fees you pay in the Netherlands. I have seem better breakfast options during Covid-19 limitations, though.
