My second night in Pittsburgh in October 2023 was the perfect opportunity to try out something very new. I typically stay at rather well-located hotels and try to make use of my frequent traveler perks, especially at Hilton Hotels. However, due to the ridiculous hotel prices in and around Central Pittsburgh and due to the fact that I had a 6:00 flight from Pittsburgh Airport (PIT) anyway, I opted for a night at the Motel 6 Pittsburgh – Crafton. The hotel did not come with overwhelming reviews, but had a quite nice location to the airport. And: it came with an unbeatable price. Let’s see how it was like there.

Motel 6 Pittsburgh – Crafton – Location

Crafton is a part of Pittsburgh, which ir roughly located in the middle between downtown and the airport. The Motel 6 is not too far away from the I-79. However, the hotel is not located right at the Interstate, but rather on top of a hill a bit away from the highway exit. There are some other hotels and some commercial buildings. A very helpful service is that there is a gas station with a shop on the way between the Interstate and the hotel. The signs to the hotel could be improved, though. You have to rely on your GPS navigation – like you would rather pass Beecham Dr, where the Motel 6 is located.

It is a Motel 6, so it is needless to mention any kind of public transport. You go there by car, otherwise, you would never opt for this place. There were quite a lot of trucks parked at the large car park. Unfortunately, the layout of the parking was unfortunate – my room was right behind the disabled parking (which nobody really seemed to care about).

Motel 6 Pittsburgh – Crafton – Room

I went for a Queen Extended Suite. The night was from Saturday to Sunday in October 2023. The price for the stay has been incredible 57.85 USD (which is about a fifth of the price the night at the Hampton Inn & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown would have been, if not paid on points). You already saw from the outside of the building that the architecture would be in urgent need of some maintenance. The room was in line with that – basic, a bit of run down, but overall okay. Thinking about the price, the only thing which bothered me was the slight smell in the room, which I cannot even really compare to something else.

The sink was in the corner of the room with the separate bathroom. I liked the sink area. Apart from towels (obviously…), the only amenity was a bar of soap. The shower was really run down with the soap holder being loose and rusty. On top of that, I had struggle with the heating / ventilation, which might explain the smell int he room. The insulation of the room was average. You heard outside voices and car quite significantly.

Motel 6 Pittsburgh – Crafton – Service

The hotel is a pure motel, which does not offer any kind of breakfast. They do have some basic vending machines, though. Checking in at the Motel 6 was a very pleasant experience. I also enjoyed the good quality of the WiFi. The area next to the 24-hour reception is featuring some vending machines.

Motel 6 Pittsburgh – Crafton – My View

It was obvious at the time of booking that this one is not a luxury place. However, I was quite happy with the Motel 6. Some maintenance issues, especially in the bathroom, were a bit too much and the parking could be somehow arranged smarter, I feel. Nonetheless, it was a really nice value for money.
