Flyctory.com Cons

  • A bit of old

With multiple floorball matches in the Vantaa region, like the EräViikingit matches against SC Classic on 22nd October and against SSRA on 24th October 2021, as well as a very early Monday morning flight back to Germany, I needed a hotel, which is allowing to park my rental car for a reasonable price as well as having close connections to the venues and Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Thus, I went for the Holiday Inn Helsinki Vantaa Airport, which I had stayed years before the last time. Here is my review.

Holiday Inn Helsinki Vantaa Airport – Location

The airport hotel is located in the Aviapolis region South of Helsinki Vantaa Airport (HEL). If you don’t use the hotel shuttle bus (see below), you likely approach the hotel by car. It is just a very short drive to the Lentoasema (airport), you will make it to the terminal in few minutes. The key alternative is the hotel shuttle bus to the airport. However, bus lines 561 and 570 have bus stops nearby.

The area around the hotel is mainly commercial. There are some more hotels in the same area. A very helpful hub to stock up your reserves is the Jumbo mall, which is just across the E18 motorway.

Holiday Inn Helsinki Vantaa Airport – The Room

As I aimed to have a good work basis for the floorball coverage, I booked a King Bed Executive room. The total price including breakfast for a three night stay, Friday to Monday in October 2021, was 347,19 EUR. The room was actually quite interesting: I had room 420, the adjacent one was 416 – in order to built an Executive Room, they merged to former standard ones. The most obvious proof of that was the weird dressing and make up room.

Apart from this creative room design, it was really a nice place to work on the pictures and relax. I loved the large work desk, but overall, the room was really spacious and cozy. The bed and pillows were very nice, the cupboard also featured a mini bar. Unfortunately, the inventory list of the mini bar did not match its contents – which has been especially weird as the Executive Room includes few free drinks.

Even though the bathroom was rather compact compared to the living area, I really enjoyed it. The shower was actually quite nice. There were just basic amenities given in dispensers. But of course, it is a Holiday Inn and not an Indigo class stay.

Holiday Inn Helsinki Vantaa Airport – Breakfast

If you take all the early Helsinki Vantaa Airport (HEL) flight in mind, having buffet breakfast from 5:00 hrs on is really a good argument to opt for the Holiday Inn. More than that, the hotel provided a selection of warm and cold dishes, which absolutely exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly, even though not always present. Nonetheless, I never ran into issues like missing items. The whole breakfast, including hot drinks, was buffet style.

A very nice service by the hotel is that they also have an early bird breakfast if you need to leave before (as I did). A sandwich, a juice, fruit, a yogurt and a hot drink, which you can grab from the fridge at the reception, is a lovely deal. The restaurant is also open for dinner (all days but Sunday evening), but I did not check that out.

Holiday Inn Helsinki Vantaa Airport – Services

The welcoming at Holiday Inn Helsinki Vantaa Airport was really nice and friendly. I was very warmly welcomed as a IHG Hotels Gold Elite customer. Also when you had questions later, they were really good. Internet worked very well, also in peak times. The hotel offers a small gym (which they suitably call Mini Gym) and a sauna, which I did not have a look at. At the reception, there is a small snack shop. The hotel has large parking capacities around the two buildings – they are charges with 10 Euro per night.

Holiday Inn Helsinki Vantaa Airport – My View

The hotel might be a bit of old here and there, but overall, I really liked my nights at the Holiday Inn Helsinki Vantaa Airport. The staff was really kind, but the outstanding features are the great breakfast options and times, including the early breakfast possibilities as well as the great location. Having an additional parking fee during the stay has been a bit of aggressive in my point of view. Still, the hotel absolutely deserves a fairly high rating.
