Due to a Eurowings flight cancellation on a London daytrip in early January, I got stuck at Stansted Airport. The process was quite smooth and I had an overnight at the Hampton by Hilton Stansted Airport. The hotel is quite new – though I am a Hilton Hotels frequent sleeper, I did not know that they opened that one. Good opportunity to review the place.
Hampton Stansted Airport – Location
Hampton by Hilton Stansted Airport is a typical airport hotel. It is located a some five minutes walk away from the Southern tip of the terminal. The walkway to the hotel is covered, you just need to cross a street at the end of the walk. Thus, togehter with the Radisson Blu on the Nothern side of the terminal, it is the most convenient location if you have an early morning flight or late arrival. There are a couple of other airport hotels around, which all require bus transfer.
Hampton Stansted Airport – Rooms
The hotel is surprisingly large, having seven floors. I had a rQueen Room on the second floor. As it was on Eurowings expense, I do not know the exact room price. For this posting, I looked up an example room price in January, weekend, two weeks ahead booking. The flex rate was 74 GBP, the lowest available price (which requires Hilton Honors membership and is non-refundable) 62 GBP.
Regarding the price and the location, the room was really spacious and well cleaned. There is a major working desk, the bed was very nice and offered multiple pillows. A coffee and tea maker was available. The shower bath was very nice as well. In the morning, I recognized that the temperature handle was loose, though. Overall, I have been very pleased with the room.
Hampton Stansted Airport – Breakfast / Restaurant
Breakfast is included in all Hampton stays, like in the US outlets. The breakfast offered at European branches is quite fine. The hotel offered Full English breakfast, a selection of bread and cold cuts, fruit, yogurt and cereals and some more staff – just what you would expect of a comparably budget airport hotel.
The lobby area is very nice and features the restaurant / breakfast area and the bar area. In the evening these areas all feature the same menu. I liked the area very much. The staff seems to be able to handle major groups of people very well – the architecture is quite clever as well. The kitchen staff, for example, can refill the hot buffet from the kitchen area directly. As an evening snack, I had Greek Salad with Garlic bread, which was not amazing, but absolutely fine.
Hampton Stansted Airport – Services
The reception staff and management of the Hampton was just amazing that evening. Three flights to Germany have been cancelled that day, most of the stranded passengers been brought into the Hilton outlet. The Eurowings staff already worked very well, but the Hampton people did even better. Very structured and organised. Just some 30 minutes after I received the flight cancellation, I had both, a new boarding pass and room keys. Excellent. The staff also did a great job in the evening, when all the people consumed their dinner vouchers. Friendly and speedy service.
On the technical and equipment side, the hotel offers free WiFi for all guests. The connection worked very well in the evening, but I struggled a bit in the early morning hours. The hotel also offers meeting facilities and a gym. The gym looked quite spacious and well equipped to me.
Hampton Stansted Airport – My View
Staying at the Hampton Inn by Hilton Stansted Airport was a nice coincidence in a situation of bad luck to me. The hotel is very nicely driven, the hotel staff did an amazing performance that night. Thus, I felt that it is right to assign the Top Pick and five stars to that place, despite it is “just” a Hampton. Whenever I need an overnight at Stansted, I will definitely keep that place in mind – and recommend you to do the same. Great stay!
