In late November 2019, I had a short stay in Madrid. Due to a recommendation of a friend and due to a nice offer, I opted for the Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport, which is located rather in the East of the airport hotel area. Here is my review.
Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport – Location
The hotel is located in the Rejas borough, right at the A-2 motorway, which connects Madrid with the Northeast. There are a couple of hotels along that route, but others like the Hilton Madrid airport are significantly closer to the travel hub. There are, however, some more hotels in very close proximity.
Due to its location, the hotel is not that ideal to travel into the city. The connects are not as bad as it seems, though, as there is a bus station some 100 meters away from the city which connects to the metro system. The area is rather commercial. There are just very few options for dinner or similar outside the hotel. There is an underpass closeby to reach the opposite side of the motorway.
Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport – Rooms
I reserved a King Deluxe room for 67.50 EUR, including breakfast. At check-in I have been assigned to a suite. The room on the ground floor was great, of course. There was a lot of space, a nice working desk, a wide bedding and a lot of complimentary water around the coffee and tea making facilities. What I also liked were the small welcome chocolates and biscuits – just a small thing, but they make you smile when you just enter the room.
The living room area was nice, the bathroom was brilliant. It featured a glass shower (which faced into the living room as you saw in the pictures above), two basins and a large Jacuzzi. On top of that, there was a separate toilet with bidet and a lot of bath amenities.
Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport – Breakfast / Food
Spanish breakfast buffets can sometimes just feature a minor upgrade of your morning coffee – but Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport is far away from that. Even though I was at breakfast quite late, they still had all items at the buffet breakfast, with a nice selection of warm dishes, cold cuts, a lot of different bread items and healthy choices. The area is serving as restaurant in the evening as well. Really nice!
Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport – Services
The check-in was super-friendly. I felt very welcome from the very beginning. I also had some minor questions (not issues), which was been handled very pleasingly by the staff. The in-room WiFI was very good as well.
In the basement, the hotel features a nice gym area, which felt to have quite a good selection of fitness machines. Right next to the reception, there is also a internet terminal.
The hotel used to feature a rental car company, which has recently moved before my visit. Thus, the hotel shuttles to/from the airport also have a branding for that company. Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport operates separate shuttle routes for Terminals 1 to 3 and for Terminal 4, which can be very handy.
Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport – My View
The location of Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport is maybe not really ideal for a city trip, but apart from that, it is offering great services as an airport hotel. The shuttle is very reliable, the breakfast is good and staying in a suite was of course a real treat. The location just kills the rating I feel the team running the hotel absolutely deserves – but 4/5 stars is still a very good one!
