Flyctory.com Cons

  • Renovation works

Before in fact exploring Kansas City itself in July, I had a night at an airport hotel close to Kansas City Airport (MCI). Right after I received by Hertz rental car and did some grocery shopping, I headed straight into the hotel after a long flight from Germany. Here are some thoughts about my experience. The hotel was in the process of doing some renovation work, so that the state at my visit may not reflect yours traveling in later than me.

Hampton Inn Kansas City-Airport – Location

The hotel is located right opposite of the airport across Interstate I-29. Even though the majority of hotels around are rather a bit of South of the Hampton, there are some other accommodation options around. There is also a gas station but overall rather few dining options. The hotel a bit “hidden” in a driveway, which leads to a comparably quiet atmosphere.

The hotel is obviously made for people traveling by car or having a night before they head on to a flight at MCI Airport. Nonetheless, there are some public transport options by bus (stop: Ambassador at 112th). The hotel is offering an airport shuttle (see below).

Hampton Inn Kansas City-Airport – Room

I booked a one night stay in a King Study Room. The refundable rate at the end of July 2022 was 155.41 USD, including tax. I am not a huge fan of the study room layout – the work desk is really large but very often not too handy. The room was nice and large, though, so I had an enjoyable stay and liked the room a lot. This room configuration neither features a fridge nor a microwave oven.

The bathroom was a slightly compact, but had a lot of space for my stuff. In addition, it featured an (US style) bathtub, which I highly appreciated. Like the whole room, the bathroom was absolutely clean, good housekeeping!

Hampton Inn Kansas City-Airport – Breakfast

Overall, the Hampton breakfast was fine at the Kansas City-Airport outlet. They did not have a warming facility, so that you could not go for some eggs or sausage. Therefor, the hotel provided breakfast sandwiches, which you could heat in the microwave. The remaining items, e.g. waffles and bagels, were just in line with what you would expect from this level of Hilton Group hotel.

Hampton Inn Kansas City-Airport – Service

The staff at the reception was very friendly. Despite the summer time trip, the pool was closed down. This may be due to the renovation work, which also impacted the gym, which was closed during my visit as well. The hotel does offer airport shuttles on demand.

Hampton Inn Kansas City-Airport – My View

Yeah, the architecture of the Hampton Inn Kansas City-Airport is rather one of the good, old days. But the performance of the hotel was a good one. Paying 150 USD for a room like this is on the painful side, but unfortunate reality in the United States. I cannot blame the hotel for that. They did a really good job.
