The hotel situation in Sempach, Switzerland, is a bit of limited. Thus, I stayed in Sursee during the Rock meets Country Festival 2025 in September 2025. For my stay, I chose the Hotel Sursee in the center of the city. Here is my hotel review.

 

Hotel Sursee – Location & Access

The hotel is located in the heart of Sursee. The building also offers some services on the ground floor. A major grocery store with restaurant is right across the street and is very handy. The streets around have low speed limits, so that the hotel is in a surprisingly quiet setting.

If you arrive by car, you can make use of the parking garage right underneath the building. Parking is complimentary and there is direct access to the hotel. If you use public transport, the Sursee train station is a some 600 meter walk away. It has some quite nice connections, including trains to Olten, Lucerne and Geneva. There are also some bus stops around the hotel, e.g. Sursee Post (line 86) or Sursee Park (several bus lines, including night bus connections).

 

Hotel Sursee – The Room

I had two nights in a standard double room in September 2025, Friday to Sunday. The total rate, including taxes and breakfast, was 268.20 CHF. I received an upgrade and stayed in one of their best room, which even featured an (infrared) sauna. The style of the hotel is rather straight, a bit of basic, but very functional. The work desk was quite nice, also as it was not covered by other items like a coffee machine. I enjoyed having quite a lot of space and a quiet atmosphere. You are in the middle of town, so that you should not expect having too stunning views from the room.

The bathroom was quite in line with the design of the room. It was functional, nice, had a traditional style with a slightly modern touch and was well maintained. I would have loved to have a bit more space for toiletries, but that did not harm my stay too much. The housekeeping / cleaning was absolutely fine.

 

Hotel Sursee – Breakfast

The breakfast room is right next to the reception. It can also be used to hang out until 22:00, as some rooms have their doors right into it. The breakfast was absolutely fine in Swiss relations. There were some quite nice items, even though the breakfast was rather continental. A nice feature was that you can grab fruit and coffee also outside breakfast times. Breakfast is included in all price options of the hotel.

 

Hotel Sursee – Services

The staff was really nice and helpful. Outside reception hours, you can check-in at a machine at the main entrance. The machine also allows you to re-issue your hotel key card, which may be very handy if there are technical difficulties. I had no issue working on my pictures as the WiFi connection provided by the hotel was absolutely fine.

 

Hotel Sursee – My View

Of course, if you want to have a stay with a view of the lovely Lake Sempach, you will go for other options. Especially if you want to explore sights in the area, the hotel is a really nice choice. The shopping options around and the parking garage are very helpful, the proximity of the train station is a good feature as well. Compared to other Swiss hotels, the price is on a rather cheap side. Thus, I was absolutely fine with my stay at Hotel Sursee.
