After staying at the Hampton by Hilton Oswiecim and visitng the depressing concentration camp sites of Auschwitz and Auschwitz-Birkenau, I headed to Krakow in August 2021. My two night stay there was at the very central Novotel Krakow, which I mainly chose due to its promising facilities and the great location. Here is my review.

Novotel Krakow Centrum – Location

The hotel is located more or less right at the river Vistula. Old Town is just a short walk away, as well as other attractions like Wawel Castle. Jubilat tram station is in front of the hotel and serves tram lines 1 and 2. Line 2 also connects you to Krakow Glowny main station. The Novotel shares its parking garage with an ibis hotel, which is in the same building. Despite the garage was rather large, the capacity was absolutely insufficient, so that you partially had to park outside of the marked parking lots or on the ones of the other hotel. Parking was 50 PLN, which is likely reasonable, if you take the excellent location into account.

There are a couple of shops and restaurants around the hotel, which was very handy during my stay as well. One side of the hotel even features a petrol station. Thus, regarding these points (and apart from the garage capacity), this Accor Hotels franchise feels like a great base to expore the Polish city.

Novotel Krakow Centrum – Atmosphere

The Novotel Krakow Centrum feels very modern. It is also a very popular accommodation, which you for example also see from all the sports jersey hanging on the walls around the lobby. The directions through the hotel are very clear and handy.

Novotel Krakow Centrum – The Room

I had a two night stay at the Novotel Krakow Centrum in late August 2021. The Friday to Sunday stay was prepaid and was a total of 724.24 PLN, roughly 150 EUR. The room I booked was an Executive Room, which I also received. In contrast to other Novotel hotels, the executive room did not feature a free stocked minibar, but only a bottle of water. Apart from that, the room was really nice and large. It also included a Bluetooth speaker, a reasonable work desk and tea and coffee making appliances. I also had a nice view of the river, which I absolutely appreciated.

The shower bathroom was nice as well and had a modern design. I have been provided with all necessary toiletries. The bathroom was clean and also had sufficient space to put my own stuff somewhere.

Novotel Krakow Centrum – Breakfast

Novotel Krakow Centrum has nice restaurant and bar facilities. I absolutely enjoyed the breakfast there, even though the service was a bit of slow. Even on 7:30 hrs, they still added new items to the buffet. Nonetheless, they had a nice choice of items, which lead to a good start of the day.

I also had dinner at the hotel once. The food was really good and I enjoyed finishing the day in that style. It was also a nice value for money.

Novotel Krakow Centrum – Gym & Pool

During my stay in 2021, the gym and pool facilities of the hotel still had some restrictions – but overall, they gave me a great time. Especially the pool area with a separate whirlpool were great and a good place to relax after all the driving and exploring the beautiful city. Unfortunately, there were some maintenance issues during my stay like the missing cover of the drainage of the whirlpool. Furthermore I was surprised that there was no (emergency) switch to turn off the bubbly warm bath – which I felt to be a safety standard.

The gym and the dressing facilities of this area were great as well. One of the large windows of the gym room gave the opportunity to look into the pool area.

Novotel Krakow Centrum – Services

The hotel was rather busy during my stay, so that check-in and check-out took longer than expected. The staff felt a bit of stressed, but was very friendly. The hotel has a business and a kids corner and thus all you would expect from a four star city hotel. The WiFi connection was excellent.

Novotel Krakow Centrum – My View

The Novotel is a great location to explore Krakow, one of the most interesting spots in Poland. Unfortunately, there were some downsides like rather slow service and he too packed parking garage. Worst thing, though, were the maintenance and safety issues in the pool – which is so sad as this part of the Novotel was apart from these really great. If they have solved them in the meantime, you will have an excellent stay in the heart of the city.
