After a flight reschudling in summer 2021, my wife and I needed an additional night in Austria before heading to the amazing Hotel Alpina Wellness and Spa in Tyrol. After grabbing the Hertz rental car at Salzburg Airport (SZG), our preferences were an affordable stay en route to our destination with good connections to the travel hub and the route to the hotel. We finally opted for the Hubertushof in Anif, a suburb of Salzburg. Here is my review.

Hotel Hubertushof – Location

Anif is located right at the A10 / E55 motorway, also named the Tauernautobahn. It has an dedicated exit at the moment, the hotel is just a very short drive away from it. The area features a couple of stores including a simple supermarket, a fashion market and a gas station. The hotel is located right at the route 160, which heads straight into Germany and turns into the B305 national route behind the border. The next city in Germany is Berchtesgaden. Overall, the Salzburger Land region is really beautiful

The driving distance from Salzburg Airport is some ten kilometers, the direct route into Salzburg city center is about the same distance. The area also features a few Salzburg attractions like Hellbrunn Castle or Salzburg Zoo. In case you don’t have a car, there is a bus stop close to the hotel. The Neu Anif stop connects to bus lines 25, 28 and 840. 840 connects you to Berchtesgaden and Salzburg Main station, 25 to Grödig and the rail travel hub as well. Bus 28 brings you to the Europark shopping center North of the Austrian city. Thus, the hotel overall has some really nice connections. We parked on the parking lot, but the hotel also offers a garage.

Hotel Hubertushof – The Room

The Hotel Hubertushof is a nice country hotel – and that is also reflected in the style of the room. The double room including breakfast was 121.50 EUR at a flexible rate with breakfast in August 2021. The design of the room was just as you imagine a Bavarian or Austrian hotel outside the cities to look alike. I felt it was really cozy – however, there were also some rather outdated things like the built-in radio receiver next to the bed. The work desk was sufficient, the room felt spacious overall. The hotel does not have air conditioning. Sleeping with an open window was not appropriate, as the room the room faced the road, which has quite a bit of traffic. You also felt that the hotel tries to keep up with the nowadays’ demands, like providing more power outlets as you might have needed in the past.

The bathroom illustrates how small the difference between “old-fashioned, but somehow fancy” and “outdated” may be. However, the room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom was very comfortable in regards of size as well.

Hotel Hubertushof – Breakfast

When we checked in, the restaurant had quite a bunch of guest – thus, we expected a good breakfast performance. The Hubertushof did not disappoint us as well. The buffet area had a lovely variety in many types of breakfast items, bread, tea and also unhealthy treats. We really enjoyed starting the day in this place.

Hotel Hubertushof – Services

The check-in was very friendly and welcoming. However, due to the robust architecture, I had quite severe WiFi issues at the work desk. The access point was right in front of the room, but the massive walls killed too much of the signal. I did not really feel that the staff at check-out was interested in that piece of information. The hotel offers a small, but nice gym. There is also a sauna, but we arrived too late to have a proper look into it.

Hotel Hubertushof – My View

Even though the check-out process gave a too strong negative feeling at the very last part of the visit, Hotel Hubertushof in Anif near Salzburg was a nice stay. You can argue about the summer heat and the rather loud traffic, but you also feel that the place is well-managed and fights hard to stay up-to-date with modern requirements. The location and connections are nice and there is even a bus to Germany – so that I overall definitely would recommend this place.
