Reykjavik has been the last stop (before staying at the Aurora Star at Keflavik Airport KEF) of the Icelandic Ring Road trip my wife had in April and May 2023. For the night in the Northernmost capital of the world, we rather aimed to beat the high hotel prices and go for a budget location. We finally opted for the 22 Hill Hotel.

22 Hill Hotel – Location

22 Hill Hotel is located slightly East of the very heart of Reykjavik, in the Brautarholt road. The area is actually quite nice for tourists, as there are supermarkets and some restaurants around. You can also walk from there to the city center. A few sights around are, for example, the national stadium Laugardalsvollur.

Regarding public traffic, the bis station Filadelfia is just some two blocks away and has several connections (bus lines 2, 5, 14, 15, 17). The Walking Distance to the Central bus terminal BSI is roughly two kilometers away. The walk to city center is maybe some 20 minutes. The hotel does have some reserved packing lots. In addition, parking in the area is free during evening and night hours.

22 Hill Hotel – Room

For our stay in May 2023, Friday to Sunday, we had booked a double room, including breakfast, with a four-day cancellation period. The total rate was 123.55 EUR. If you compare that to the prices you typically pay in the Icelandic capital, the 22 Hill Hotel is definitely close to a bargain. The room was larger than I expected and also larger than quite some other rooms on the trip. The setup was rather basic, but did its job done. The chair at the work desk was on the negative side, as was not really stable. The TV set blocked a major part of the work desk plate, which I felt to be bothering as well.

The bathroom has rather been in line with the rest of the room. It was functional, not fancy. But it was clean and reliable – even though you cannot neglect some maintenance issues in the room as well. There were some major marks of usage and one of the lamps did not fix into the ceiling any more. These things should, of course, not happen ideally.

22 Hill Hotel – Breakfast

Breakfast is not the premium discipline of several Icelandic accommodations. 22 Hill Hotel is quite in line with it. I was surprised that they serve quite some people. The breakfast items were rather basic, but I definitely had a lot of worse experiences in that regard in other places in the past. The staff was great, though, and managed to keep the buffet refilled at all times.

22 Hill Hotel – Service

The staff at this Reykjavik budget stay has been a really nice one. The WiFi in the hotel worked well, too.

22 Hill Hotel – My View

The 22 Hill Hotel is a good budget option when you stay in Reykjavik. There are a lot of posher places in the capital and around, but typically, they also reduce your travel budget more significantly. The location is not too bad and the free overnight street parking may be a good feature. I overall liked it.
