During my 2020 tour following the Pittsburgh Penguins on their West Coast away matches, the only hotel I had multiple stays in was the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Anaheim. I majorly chose the place due to its convenient connection to Honda Center (home of the Anaheim Ducks) and due to the price. Quite a nice stay, definitely, with some much better advantages.

DoubleTree Suites Anaheim – Location

The hotel is located South of Disneyland and close to the Anaheim Convention Center, which leads to a quite interesting mix of business people and families. The hotel is partnering with Disneyland, most hotel guests saved the massive Disney parking fees and walked to the parks, which is roughly a kilometer.

The area is very touristic. There are a lot of peer hotels, restaurants and similar facilities. The hotel is also quite nicely located to Honda Center (Home of the Anaheim Ducks) and The Outlets at Orange, where you can spent any money Mickey still allowed you to keep after visiting the parks. I neither visited a park or Downtown Disney, though. The general location including the proximity to Interstate 5 as well as some other attractions around were quite perfect to me.

DoubleTree Suites Anaheim – Rooms

Another key reason for chosing the DoubleTree was the really nice room price. The pre-paid (non-refundable) three night rate in February 2020 was roughly 341 USD including taxes. On top of that, there was a nightly some 20 USD parking fee. Breakfast was included due to my Hilton Honors Diamond status.

The room was absolutely fine – these kind of DoubleTree stays are typically not too modern in design – but the room had sufficient space and all necessary facilities, including a fridge and a microwave oven. The state of the furniture was all fine, no major scars or similar damages.

No surprises in potty-land as well: Te bathroom was quite spacious and , fine for the stay. All typical amenities were provided and the shower came with a bathtub. I liked the towel decoration definitely.

DoubleTree Suites Anaheim – Food / Breakfast

At lobby level, the restaurant area served buffet breakfast. It is not the start of the day which I will keep in my heart for the end of my life, the selection was a bit on the limited side and the variation of items was not too thrilling as well – staying in the place for a longer conference or so might bring you to nearby alternatives, definitely.

The hotel also had a nice bar area, which I did not make use of, though.

DoubleTree Suites Anaheim – Services

As said, the hotel is partnered with DIsney, so that there is a ticket service desk and some services. There are also shuttle connections to the park. The staff was very welcoming, check-in/check-out and housekeeping worked very well. The WiFi was longing for an upgrade in capacity, but it was bearable, there were no connection errors or similar during my stay.

A huge plus of the hotel is the lovely pool area. As characteristic for US hotels, the pool itself is not huge, but it is inviting for a relaxing swim and the loungers around lead to a nice atmopshere. There is also a small whirlpool.

The hotel also offers a gym, which one the one hand felt a bit small regarding the size of the hotel – on the other hand, I could take pictures of it while it was completely empty… So it can’t be that tiny 😉 I guess people who stay in the DoubleTree Suites Anaheim Convention Center are just buzy with other things.

DoubleTree Suites Anaheim – My View

To be very straight: the key reason why I feel the DoubleTree Suites Anaheim at the Convention Center is a good one are two components: location and price. Greater Los Angeles area can be a terrible rip-off in hotel pricing – and this place is very often quite moderate. If you want to go to Disney, it is a great place, definitely. Of course, if you want to go for Los Angeles Downtown / Hollywood attraction, it is quite a drive – especially as L.A. Traffic is a nightmare. The hotel is good, some average ratings in key categories, but nice staff, great pool, nice price and a beautiful location.
