As I flew into Raleigh/Durham (RDU) and had my first concert in Alpharetta near Atlanta, I needed a stop en route on my May/June 2026 road trip following the 2026 Weird Al Yankovic Tour. After checking value for money and location, I in fact landed at an airport hotel close to Charlotte Airport (CLT). Here is my review of the Spark by Hilton Charlotte Airport North. The hotel had re-branded not too long before my stay. It has formerly been a La Quinta Inn.

 

Spark Charlotte Airport North – Location

The Spark by Hilton Charlotte Airport North is located Northeast at the airport, right North of the I-85. There are numerous hotels in the area. For travelers, there are also some basic restaurants like a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and a Waffle House. There is no grocery store, though. The hotel is also conveniently located to the Sullenberger Aviation Museum. You do need a car or an Uber to get there, though.

As it is just a short drive from the Interstate, I really liked the convenient location. Self-parking at the hotel is complimentary. Due to the proximity of the airport, you do hear starting / arriving planes from the hotel. This did not bother me too much, personally, though. If you are more sensitive against noise, this might be a reason to go for a location more distant to Charlotte Airport (CLT). There is a bus stop, which takes you to Downtown Charlotte, but I guess, it is rather irrelevant for travelers.

 

Spark Charlotte Airport North – Room

I had one night in a king bed room in May 2026, Saturday to Sunday. The flexible rate including taxes was 126.49 USD. Breakfast is always included at Spark hotels. The room was in line with my previous experience with the rather new Hilton brand. It was large and in a good state (also due to the recent rebranding). There is not too much furniture and items, the hotel concentrates on what you really need. However, I liked the spacious work desk and the fact that the room even featured a fridge. The air condition worked fine as well.

The shower bathroom was just in line with that. I had the typical North American bathtub and sufficient storage space. House keeping in the room was really fine and the room was in a good state. In unfortunately missed taking pictures of it.

 

Spark Charlotte Airport North – Breakfast

The Spark hotels in general have a basic, continental breakfast without any warm food items. I liked the setup of the breakfast area, which was all maintained fine. Typical, people grab their breakfast to go or to eat it up in their room anyway. Nonetheless, I felt I had a really good time.

 

Spark Charlotte Airport North – Service

Check-in and check-out at the hotel was really friendly and nice. The hotel drives a small gym, which is not that appealing, but getting its job done. However, there was a weird smell in that room – this might be due to ongoing renovations. Here and there, the hotel still needs some maintenance and better cleaning. The WiFi at the Spark Charlotte Airport North worked fine.

 

Spark Charlotte Airport North – My View

The hotel was a nice choice for the purpose I aimed it being for. A safe, clean, and conveniently located hotel, which suited well to my road trip. It is also a good choice for an early flight from Charlotte Airport (CLT). The breakfast is limited, but that is part of their branding. The downside was the level of maintenance. The hotel underwent upgrades during my stay, though, so that some issues might be solved during your stay already.
