Hotel Runavik

Most of my trips to the Faroe Islands are not in the absolute high season in summer. Covering the Wenzel Nordic Cup 2026, though, required a stay in August. The Torshavn offers were quite high in price so that I checked out a hotel which was on my bucket list anyway. Runavik is one of the nicest cities on the islands and quite well connected to most of the locations. Here is my review of Hotel Runavik.

Hotel Runavik – Location

Runavik is a some 4,000 inhabitant town on the island of Eysturoy. Hotel Runavik is located on the Southern side of town. The location is rather ideal for travelers. There is a Bonus supermarket with a fast food restaurant in walking distance – and you can also easily access the city center with a surprisingly wide selection of stores as well. The hotel itself has a nice view of the fjord and the harbor area.

Typically, you should visit the Faroe Islands by own or rental car. Hotel Runavik offers private parking in front of the hotel. The capacity is rather limited, though. However, there are additional parking spaces just across the road, so that it is very convenient. If you pay the high tolls for the Eysturoyartunnilin(Eysturoy Sub-Sea Tunnel), you reach Torshavn in some 20 minutes. Its entrance is just a short drive away from the hotel. The toll-free route is about one hour, which is also the travel time to Faroe Islands Airport (FAE). Alternatively, there are public bus services crossing the tunnel.

Hotel Runavik – Room

I had a four night stay at Hotel Runavik, Thursday to Monday in August 2026. The total flexible rate price for a single room was 5,200 DKK, roughly 700 EUR. My room was located on the upper floor. There was an elevator, which unfortunately failed operation on Saturday and could not be repaired during my stay. As Faroese hotel rooms are typically rather on the compact side, I was really surprised by the really nice size of the room. In the corner, there was also a spacious work desk, which was very helpful during my stay. The room was functional, but had some warm atmosphere, so that I really liked it.

Hotel Runavik – Breakfast

The hotel has a lovely restaurant with a nice view on the first floor. It is used for breakfast, but also serves basic dinner and can be used as a lounge / bar. The breakfast was really nice, featuring some warm items and a very nice range of cold items as well. The staff also maintained the morning service really well, so that I enjoyed my breakfast at Hotel Runavik.

Hotel Runavik – Service

The staff was really kind and helpful. The reception times are limited, but sufficient. You can easily access the doors any time. The WiFi in the hotel worked well, even for my high traffic photographic work. The staff at Hotel Runavik was very friendly and helpful as well.

Hotel Runavik – My View

I absolutely liked the stay at Hotel Runavik. For my trip, it did add a few tunnel toll payments to the travel budget – but therefor it was less than half price than Torshavn hotels at that time. The location is lovely and handy. If you have relaxed plannings, you can easily prevent the tunnel as well. I will definitely come back to this place one day.
