Flyctory.com Pros

  • Convenient location
  • Great views

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Cash only

Okay, I have to give in from the very beginning: I love my home town Cologne – and this my favorite place in the city. I am not balanced. But as I am convinced that I am right, I share this review with you. As a tourist, you are typically in the Cologne-Deutz train station area for one of three reasons: first all of, there might be a trade fair, which is located next to the train station. Secondly, you might go to the largest multi-purpose venue, the LANXESSarena. Or you catch a high-speed train to somewhere else. Unfortunately, you might miss the KölnTriangle Cologne View (there are several names for the same thing, but this seems to be the right one). This is a shame, as it is the best view of the city you can get.

KölnTriangle Cologne View – Location and Admission

KölnTriangle (meaning “Cologne triangle”) refers to the building the viewing platform is located at, the triangular skyscaper, which is majorly used as an office building. The entrance to the viewing platform is separate, close to the train tracks – it is hard to miss it. Köln-Deutz Messe is Cologne’s second largest train station and features local to international train connections. There are also several bus and underground train lines, so that it is very easy to get there. You may also have a walk over the Hohenzollernbridge with a vast colleciton of love locks. The KölnTriangle also has a parking garage, the prices are rather high, though.

At the time of writing, the platform is opening from between noon and 20:00hrs. On Fridays and Saturdays, there is a prolonged opening until 22:00 hrs. Adult admission is 5 Euro. During my visit, they surprisingly accepted cash only.

KölnTriangle Cologne View – The Visit

Right opposite the cashier desk, there is an entrance barrier, the elevator taking you to the 28th floor of the building is right behind that. At this level, there is a closed event space, which is actually really nice as well.  From there, you have to walk up a staircase by two additional levels – or take a designated elevator. Thus, the platform is also accesible for mobility-limited visitors. The platform has a glass wall around. Prints on the glass introduce you to some of the buildings and areas you see from above. The platform became more and more popular to influencers in recent past. Nonetheless, the atmosphere up there is typically very relaxed.

KölnTriangle Cologne View – Views of Cologne

You have a 360 degrees unobstructed view from the KölnTriangle Cologne View platform. I did my visit anti-clockwise on a beautiful day in June 2022. In one of the first pictures, for example, you see the excellent Cologne Chocolate Museum next to the Sports- and Olympics Museum. Later, there are the tracks of the Deutz train station as well as views of the LANXESSarena.

These pictures feature the historic trade fair buildings, which nowadays host an insurance company and several TV stations. You also see the River Rhine again. The main view is, of course, the one of the Rhine overlooking Cologne Cathedral, the main station and the Musical Dome theater. A few pictures also feature the Hyatt Regency Cologne, where I had a night with my wife at a Cathedral View room. I had a really great day there – thus I put some major size views into a gallery (see below).

If there is a good view day or a clear evening – that’s the place to go to if you are in Cologne. The location is easy to get to, the price is right (even though it has been lower in the past) and the view is amazing. I guess the gallery gives you all arguments you need. Indeed, a Top Pick! rating.
